Not peeing at night?

DD is a normal wetter through the day and sometimes has some pretty heavy diapers by 2 hours. Our usual night routine was feed and bed by 9, up at midnight for diaper change and feed again, same at 2, same at 4, same at 6, then the same at 8 and up for the day. Then her nights got better and it became fed-change-bed by 10, up at 3:30 for change and feed, same at 6:30, same at 9 but up for the day.

Just last week she started STTN (it's been 5 days) so I lined her diaper more (we CD) and no leaks but it was pretty full at first since she'd eat-change-bed between 9:30-11 (I think the sleep cycle change has her pattern a little off, but we're narrowing it down) then up at 8am for feed and change.

My worry now is because that lasted 2 days of her STTN then on the 3rd and 4th day only the bamboo insert I lay inside was wet (like she didn't wet enough to even wet through to the actual diaper). Today is the 5th day of her STTN and last night she went down at 10pm with a feeding and change, and woke up this morning at 8am to eat but was dry as a bone. No pee at all.

Should I be worried? I know no leaks are great but she's not even 4 months old and eating fine and everything. Sorry for the long explaination just to ask if her not peeing at night is normal, I just wanted to show that it is really recent this is happening and it changed pretty quickly. I've never heard of a baby doing this. Anybody else??

Re: Not peeing at night?

  • I notice DD does this on nights where she is completely zonked out. And on those mornings where we wake up with dry diapers, she usually more than makes up for it within an hour of being up. I don't really worry about it as long as she is geting plenty of pees during a 24 hr period like a PP said. I would be worried if she didn't go all night and then didn't make up for it during the day.

  • DD did that the other night. It surprised me. But she sure made up for it. I changed her 3 times within an hour of getting up (she had bad diaper rash so I couldn't leave her wet for long). She is not waking up soaked when she does pee. Just slightly wet.

  • The two nights my DD slept 8 hours (before suddenly reverting to up-every-hour for a month, oy) she woke dry as a bone as well. I googled it because I was quite worried only to find it's completely normal. Lots of babies do this on nights when they sleep better. As long as she's still peeing fine during the day you're good. Enjoy the dryness! :-)

  • Thank you for the reassurance. I was worried about her little kidneys :(

  • I was having the same issue and did some googling and read that it's normal for babies to not pee when they're sleeping really deeply. As long as you get one that's good and wet shortly after your LO wakes and then throughout the day, I wouldn't worry. But of course you can always check with your pedi!
