Code Brown: Holy Diarrhea!!! *UPDATE*

It's funny, you think that you kinda know what to expect, then something happens, and you're like WTF?

C has had diarrhea since last Tuesday.  I mean explosive, blow out the diaper, clothes, sleep sack and onto the sheet kind.  I have never seen this before.  It's going along with crankiness, snot nose and white bumps on the gums, so I'm chalking it up to teething...except it isn't going away.  It also is turning back to the yellow color.  Now he's playing like normal, and up until two days ago  eating like a pig.  However, yesterday and today his appetite has gone down drastically.  I'm trying to offer him water whenever he wants, let him go to town on some watermelon before nap today.  And his butt is just ravaged with rash.  Should I contact the Pedi tomorrow, do you think that it's just normal 'teething'?

Update=so after a 6:30 am blowout, a 9:45 am blowout in the highchair, and an early nap wakeup blowout, I called the nurse line at my Pediatrician. She wasn't concerned, said that he most has something viral that his body is fighting off. She said that 5x a day is considered mild (!) and they wouldn't be concerned unless it is lasting more than a week. She said just to hang on. Oh Joy.

Re: Code Brown: Holy Diarrhea!!! *UPDATE*

  • We just went through this last week and I'm pretty sure it was teething. It lasted about a week. He didn't have a fever and I was going to take him to the pedi on monday if he didn't feel better this weekend, but he's bad to his old self and his poop has gotten less loose and explosive. If you are concerned though, I would take him. It never hurts to make sure it isn't something more serious.

  • Thanks for responding!  I'm glad that he isn't the only one that is experiencing or has experienced this.  He doesn't have a fever, but I feel bad for his poor bum.  I'm sick of this sh!t!

  • Cash's bum was pretty red too. He kept pooping in his sleep and his rash would get worse. It is starting to clear up now. I just made sure to put it on after every change. I have stuff my MIL gets from the pharmacy.

  • Poor ill guy.i would probably at least call the pedi if it didn't go away. But then, diarrhea worries me, because of my own issues.

As for the red bum, I always found Vaseline works best for us, even when he had a rash which bled. I also found that bag balm helps - don't laugh. It's for udders and essentially Vaseline with extras. I have used it on big A,on myself and DH, the cats and Shadow and it does heal everything so far.....worth a try!

  • Tysons, C poops in his sleep, too!  Just ruined yet another nap, as I had to strip the bed and bathe him again just now.  Nita, I think that I am going to call the Pedi.  I might try Vaseline, and we actually already have bag balm!  DH uses it, along with myself.  And, hey, if it's good enough for Shadow...it's good enough for Carson! :-)

Haha! I think DH said exactly the same thing before using it the first time on Alastair - if it is good enough for Shadow, it is good enough for the baby. I sometimes think that dog is more delicate than any human could ever be, so who knows, it may just be correct....

And because I know you are a fan.....here you go. The terror twins staring at me while pumping. Seems like it is pretty weird looking for both, baby and doggy.

  • We went through this about three weeks ago when Violet's front teeth started to break through.  Runs, rash, and crankiness=torture!

  • This is pure hell, Penny!  How long did Violet's last?

  • We have been going through this too. Gator is still eating but not a ton so I have been giving her lots of breads and stuff to made the poo less watery. Weave stuff from Europe that works like bag balm and we use it on everything.....my dad even said he used it on a old gun case zipper yesterday to make it slide easier. Haha!

Try baking soda baths too! Once a day.dont use soap or lotions. I just would fill the sink half full and dump a cutoff baking soda in there and let her sit for 15 to 20 minutes. It really helps with the rash! We do those baths a lot, so we buy our baking soda at Costco.

  • Thanks, Elsa, I'll try that bath.  DH went to Costco on Saturday and came home with baking soda because I'm going through so much of it.  Here's yet another use!

  • I love all my spelling errors in my posts. Sheesh! I always think I hit the space bar on the iPad but don't in fact touch it and then autocorrect changes the words. What that was supposed to say, is when the sink is filling with warm water I dump a cup of baking soda in there so it dissolves in the water and then give her a bath or at least just let her sit in there and soak her tushie.
