Night 1 of sleep training

DS nurses to sleep every night, which sometimes takes over an hour. And then we're screwed if he wakes up during the transition to his crib - it requires rocking or nursing some more until he's out. So the nighttime routine was taking for-EVER - up to 2 hours.

So we started sleep training tonight using the Ferber method. We did bath, lotion, jammies, then I nursed him for 15 minutes before laying him down in his crib, awake.

I checked him 3 minutes in (screaming)...5 minutes later (still screaming)....10 minutes later just before I went to check on him, he fell quiet. Cried for about a minute shortly after that, and then he was asleep!

Those 20-ish minutes were rough, and I'm not sure I would have survived an hour or more of it, even with checking on him every 10 minutes. He usually STTN so here's hoping he does the same tonight.

If we get this "down" I'll move on to fixing his napping problems (i.e. he doesn't sleep at daycare b/c he's used to napping in a swing and they can't do it there).

Good luck to other mommies sleep training their LO's!
