What should I do? Sleep related cp

T was diagnosed with mild reflux at 2 months and started sttn or only waking up once after starting Zantac. We had sleep regression around 4 months like everyone else for a few weeks then went back to 6 hour sleep stretches and a couple more hours after eating. Last week, he had his first cold and was up most of the night the first couple nights and then every 1-3 hours since then. Hes also teething bad. He's spitting up a little more, so I'm not sure if I should call the dr and have his Zantac increased or not. When he cut his first two teeth, he spit up a lot then quit for several weeks after the teeth came through. Since he's gnawing and drooling so much, I'm wondering if the same thing is going on and he's getting ready to cut another tooth. I don't want to increase his dosage or have to take him in if this is not reflux related, and honestly I think his reflux is much better now. He's still congested at night and I'm fully aware that this crappy sleep could be a combination of everything. This isn't a "why isn't he sleeping?" post. I just want to know if you think we should sleep train or wait it out since we have these other things going on. If you say sleep train, please recommend your method. I'm not sure I have it in me to CIO, and I don't know that modified CIO would work with I'm because he gets more upset if he can see me but I don't pick I'm up (ie: in the car when he's crying). But if your method is CIO, please tell me what you did and if it worked. I'm open to it, I just don't know that I should do anything since we have all these other issues going on that can affect sleep. I'm holding out hope that we'll go to bed one night and he'll be back to at least more than a 2 hour stretch of sleep. At least when he was tiny and did this, I didn't have to work. I'm barely functioning now!

  • Reflux can really impact a babies sleep and zantac should increase with weight increases. What does your lo weigh? Ari is a bit over 15 lbs and gets 1.1 ml 3x a day.

I would check his dosage and then maybe put some teething gel on his gums at night to see if that helps.

If nothing seems to help I would probably look into sleep training methods to see what you are comfortable with. There are a lot of choices out there.

ETA: We are using Sleep Easy (modified Ferber/CIO) at night because Ari couldn't self sooth and it really helped with bedtime. It was too stressful to implement for naps right now but might try again in a few weeks.

He honestly probably does need an increase due to his weight. He's 18 pounds and gets 2 ml 2x a day. It's been about 6 weeks since we increased it, so it's probably time. Ill call tomorrow to increase it.

  • I didn't vote bc I wanted to combine two choices. I would call the doc, and not sleep train until he feels better. We are going through the same thing, minus the reflux. He has a cough though, and is on breathing treatments. I don't plan on any sort of sleep training until he is all better.

This is what I say after a little rest later in the day. I know we should wait. At 4am though, after being up all night I start wanting to sleep train. Lol.
