another cleaning lady question

How much do you all pay an hour for your cleaning lady? I asked a girl from high school how much she charges and she said $20 an hour. I thought that seemed a little high but I don't have much to base it off of.

If it is a little high should I ask her if she is willing to accept a different (more reasonable) amount or should I just look for someone else?

Re: another cleaning lady question

  • That's definitely the going rate around here - I said on another post I have some friends who do this on the side.  My thoughts are: they usually spend at the very most 4 hours at one house, unless it's huge and maybe that will be more time, but they discuss it with the owner ahead of time.  Also, if someone is self-employed in the U.S., they have to pay about 40% in taxes - they'll have to pay social security as both the employer and employee, for example.  To me, they are likely taking home slightly above minimum wage after all that...but that's just my personal opinion.

  • I went with a cleaning company and there is a team of 2-3 that come out every week. They are here for 45-60 minutes and I pay $65 each week. So I guess that averages to about $20-$25/labor hours...

  • I live in NYC and a cleaning lady not working through an agency typically gets $10 - $15/hr.

Someone going through an agency is $12 - $20/hr but you have to factor in the fee.

  • We pay ours 11/hr in a very rural area.
  • We pay a flat rate of $100 each cleaning and we have it done every other week.
  • I pay a flat $75 per cleaning.  Not sure how long she stays, but the apt. is very clean when she leaves.

  • Our service sends out two ladies and I pay them about $153 each time it's not based on time but the job. They had someone from the company come to our house and asses before beginning. We only have them come once a month though to deep clean, it's cheaper if you have them weekly.

  • I pay $130 for her to clean the entire house top to bottom and she's here for about 4.5 hours.  It works out to about $29/hr.  If I had her come more every two weeks, it would only be $20/hr.
