S+TM--Gift Ideas for Older Sibling

Id like to get DD1 a small gift to give her as a "congratulations youre a big sister" kind of gift in hopes that it makes her feel proud and special opposed to left out! Did any of you do this or have ideas of what a good gift might be? Im torn between getting her something "sister-related" like a sister picture frame and a kids digital camera or a set of barbies thats big and little sister etc OR a random toy that I know she'll like but has nothing to do with being a sister!

  • My boys are each getting a little bag with a "big brother" t-shirt, a book, a little toy for something to do and snacks for while they wait with Grandma and Papa (I'm having a c-section)

I was actually just thinking of doing a collection of similar things--big/little sister barbie, a big sister shirt (already have that), big sister book, and a picture frame for a photo of the two of them. Do you know of a good big sister/sibling book?

  • DS is getting a book and a snack, so not really something big brother related, but something I know he'll like.

  • I'm doing bags for each of my girls with new fun stuff for "big girls".. like a new DVD, color wonder markers, new coloring book, their favorite treat, a travel-size game, etc.. They are 2.5 and 5 so mostly I just want something to keep them occupied while I'm busy with the new baby and make them feel special for getting stuff that only a big kid could get

  • When my nephew was born I sent my niece a box of gourmet cookies. She was three at the time. I'm wondering what I can do for my DS who is 13 years-old. He won't like a "big brother" t shirt or anything like that. I'm open for ideas if anyone has any!
  • When each of my girls were born I bought their brothers a small toy that was something they were interested in.  It wasn't big brother related, but they liked getting something that was an interest of theirs from their little sisters.  When my second daughter was born I bought her a baby carrier for her Bitty Baby so she could carry her baby like I would be carrying her sister.  I also made the doll and her little sister matching hats.  This time I'll probably get the older daughter some new doll clothes or a diaper baby for her Bitty Baby and the younger one will get a baby carrier or a new doll since she doesn't have a Bitty Baby yet.

  • DS is getting a Big Brother t-shirt, snack and a toy that is wrapped in special paper...non baby related but something I know he'll like. I also got him a Moby Wrap b/c I have one for the baby...he likes to play with "his baby" so he can feel like he's in charge of someone too. :) Im sure whatever you do they'll be happy!
  • I ordered DD a cute shirt that says "BIG Sister Kayla." I also have a fun Leap Frog Phonics game (She's really into letters now), and a coloring book with crayons for her to play with at the hospital. We'll be giving these things to her at the hospital when she visits. :)

  • We just figured out we're giving our older daughter a nice bracelet from her little sister.  I think she'll love it and hopefully, it will last forever.
  • DS and I will be going to build-a-bear and making a gift for the new baby and I will make him a bear or something (when he isn't with) as a gift "from" the new baby.
  • The baby will be here on International talk like a pirate day so DD is getting a melissa and doug pirate chest to keep her busy when she visits!
  • We made DS a shirt that says "big brother" on it (DS #2 has a matching onesie) and then bought a snack (thomas fruit snacks) and some toys to keep him occupied (scissors - his first pair - we're trying to make him feel more like a "big boy" and a magnadoodle).  I put it in a bucket that says "big brother" on it.  He'll get it at the hospital when he comes to meet DS #2.

While I liked the idea of a momento (the frame or something), I know DS would not care at all about them right now and I wanted something that would make him happy and keep him busy at the hospital.  Plus, we'll put him in his t-shirt at the hospital and the nurses said that everyone makes a big deal when they see big brothers/sisters walking around.

The books I got are just fun books, nothing sibling related. For DS#2 (23 months) I got him the Yummy/Yucky book. He loves it!

  • DD is 3, we got her a high chair/baby swing for her dolls from her baby brother.  I also took her out shopping and she picked out a little sock monkey for him.  We'll exchange these once we get home from the hospital.  I wanted to get her something but also thought it would be nice if she got him something as well and actually picked it out herself so she felt included.
  • Last month we also gave her a big sister shirt and a couple story books about being a big sister.  We gave them to her early to kind of get her used to the idea.  She loves the books, wants them read to her almost every night.
