Baby Showers

Prizes for game winners

Hi all,

I'm planning a baby shower for my sister. The shower is Cat in the Hat themed, and I'm having a hard time coming up with prizes for the game winners.

I've only been to two baby showers, and neither of those had games, so I don't really know how much to spend per prize.

We plan on doing 2-3 games, and I'm just leaning towards Starbucks gift cards for prizes, but I'd love to have something different or even something that fits with the theme.

 Any ideas?

  • I like the idea of Starbucks gift cards.  To make them more "themed" you could attach a little poem to them or find someway to decorate them.

IMO themed favors are better than themed gifts.  Also, (not trying to be mean) your guests won't care about the theme as much as you, the other hosts and your sister do.  Everyone else will just want to show up, chat, and eat cake.

  • Starbucks gift cards sound perfect. It is something that the majority of people would appreciate, unlike things like jewelry (the prizes at the last shower I was at) where it just isn't people's style, ykwim?

  • I think small denomination gift cards are always great favors.  Try Barnes and Noble and see if they have Dr. Seuss-themed gift cards- they usually have quite a few patterns to pick from, and if people aren't readers, they can still use the cards at the cafe.

Or as PP suggested, take whatever gift card you have and use double-sided sticky tape to attach to a cardstock hat or some other themed decoration.

  • The best prize I ever got at a shower was a glass jar filled with dry ingredients to make rocky road brownies with a little recipe card on the front telling you what liquid ingredients to add to it and the baking instructions.  It was so cute!  Doesn't really go with your theme but I thought I'd throw it out there.

I'm actually on my way to the dollar store to see if I can find anything neat for not too much.  If I can't, I'll just be getting gift cards as well.

  • Give gift cards and attach on a small card a line from a Suess book that you think fits your theme, from Cat in the Hat or anything else. Make it fit the colour theme and thats your theme matching contribution without going crazy.

  • I think the $5 gift cards make good prize whether it is at a local coffee shop or gas station.  My go-to prizes lately at the showers I've hosted have been scratch off lottery tickets.  Everyone that knows me kinds of expects them now.  I give 2-3 to each game winner.  Usually there are 2-3 games and sometimes more than one winner for each so I buy several extras.  BTW...one time someone won $200.  Needless to say she went home happy.  lol
