thumb sucking

just wondering if anyone else has a thumbsucker? my son is 2 years and 3 months and still sucks his thumb only when going to bed but still wondering if anyone has tried to kick the habit or has your doctor said anything(ours hasn't) about when they should stop?

    My DD is 3, and she still does it. She has been doing it since she was 9 months. It has gotten less frequent as she has gotten older. It's mainly when she is apprehensive or concentrating on something.

    My dentist suggested that stuff that tastes bad, but I'm not a fan of that.

    I got her a book that came with a thumb puppet to put on her thumb to remind her not to suck. That kind of backfired b/c she got upset and hid in the closet (probably so she could suck her thumb).  When I ask her about the puppet, she shouts "I'm not sucking my thumb!" like she's afraid of the puppet or something.

    So, we took a step back and we'll try again when she's a little older, I guess.

    My 3yr old still does it. His pedi brought it up at his well child checkup today but said she wouldnt do anything drastic like the hand guard for another year or so.

    My 28mo old DD still does this - also generally just before bed or when she's extremely stressed or in need of comfort.

    I talk to her about it.  I tell her that she'll need to stop, that it's not good for her teeth, and we try other ways of soothing.  Unfortunately, her second favorite soothing mechanism is unconsciously pinching my arms...

    From what I understand, for mouth formation reasons, between two and three years old is as old as you "want to let them go".  We'll see if she'll stop any time soon...

    My daughter is still a pretty hard-core thumbsucker. She's gotten better about only doing it at home/in bed (that's how she falls asleep) but it's still her first instinct when she's upset.

    I talk to her about it and now am just focusing on trying to get her to only suck her thumb in her bed. I praise her a ton when I see her start to suck her thumb but stop which she does frequently.

    She comes from a long line of long-term thumb suckers (me, my dad, my aunt, my grandma, all did until grade school) so I really don't expect her to give it up anytime soon. She will eventually, 99% of people do.

    my dd started thumb sucking at around 6 months, and now does it when ever she has her comfort bunny - which she wants to carry around ALL the time I'm trying to get her to leave the bunny in bed, so she'll only suck her thumb to go to sleep, but man it's hard to wean her off of it :( she yells WHERE BABA? WANT BABA! I know baba (her bunny) is her comfort, so I just keep encouraging her NOT to suck her thumb, and figure we'll deal with it when she's older. IMO she's too young to do anything drastic to make her stop (she's 26 months)

    Both of my boys suck their thumbs still. Preston is almost 6 and will suck his thumb at night going to sleep. Harrison is 2 and will suck his thumb whenever he has his blankie with him. In Preston's case, I'm hoping that preer pressure from school, will help him stop. Talking with him about it, is not working. :-(
