U/O!!

Re: U/O!!

  • Oh man, I am loving this UO thread.

    imageTambcat:

I think Honeycrisp apples are overrated. They are watery and don't have much flavor. (I rail against them every year on ML, lol.)

I hate NPR and don't know how people can drive around listing to it. yaaaawwwn.

I love - I mean, LOVE both Honeycrisp apples and NPR. Oh Tamb, it boggles my mind that these two things are on your "blah" list :-)

I also love coffee. Actual coffee. I would rather drink piss than go anywhere near mcd's "coffee" - I've been to gas stations that do it better.

I can't do beer, although I keep trying to like it. Jane Eyre and CITR are faves. I've never, ever set foot in a Walmart (won't on principle), but spend more time in Target than I'd like to admit (there's one really close to my house...) I agree with the long unkempt hair UO, even though I'm most definitely rocking exactly that right now. I'm loving living in a state where hats from October-April are completely acceptable this year.

My UO is related to the walking post: I've never, ever used the elevators in malls, dept stores, etc. Now that I'm pushing a stroller (DD hates the ergo unless we're walking outside), it annoys me to no end to have to wait in line behind perfectly able-bodied people who are too lazy to take the stairs or even the fricking escalator. Seriously, WHY take an elevator up one floor if you're in perfectly good health? (carrying heavy packages, wrangling strollers/toddlers are obvious exceptions). I find this appalling on so many levels.

I desperately love Kate Chopin's The Awakening.  When I read it in high school, it changed a lot of my views about myself and social roles and expectations.  I can't wait until my daughter is older and we can read it together and discuss.  That's pretty nerdy of me too.

How do I not know this book? If you like it, it must be fabulous. **Runs off to Amazon**

  • I love McDonalds frappes. I love, love, love Jane Austin. Jane Eyre is ok, but I don't care for Wuthering Heights. I haven't had a hair cut since first trimester and my hair is super long and ends up in a ponytail pretty much every day. I don't want to "waste " one of my evenings with DS to go get it cut.

I do love Wuthering Heights, despite what Tamb so perfectly put, their all self absorbed.  I love Jane Eyre too, but agree I don't find it romantic.

I just love books.  Lots and lots of books.  I want to have a house with a library so effin bad.

Not to be a blog wh0re, but I just wrote about the Awakening!

Also: a book I read that just blew my mind is Leslie Marmon Silko's Ceremony. She's a Native American author, and the book is about a Laguna man who comes home from WWII with PTSD to the reservation, and tries to find healing for himself and his people. It's about the powers of destruction and the healing power of connection, and it interweaves a lot of native storytelling, and I LOVED IT.

  •  I wish I loved coffee and beer.  I like one type of beer, tap from Germany, and well that is kind of hard to get in the US...

I wish I lived somewhere with awesome public transportation, I hate driving and think it is the biggest waste of money and resources.  It is also way more dangerous than public transportation.

I love Walmart, not because I go there, but because it means the people who do shop there don't shop where I want to shop.  Walmart raises my blood pressure with all the kids running around and crazy looking/acting people, I like that they stay there and I can enjoy Target and other stores.

I do love some honeycrisp apples and NPR too.  And naturally, I agree with you (as always, it's no longer a shock) about mcd's coffee.  I find it to be swill, unless they add 900 calories of sugar, whipped cream, chocolate, and caramel, and by then it defeats the purpose.  I miss you, lover.  Haven't seen you around much <3

I would have disagreed with you...however I went and tried the never ending pasta bowl recently...and it says you can get sausage or *ROASTED CHICKEN* I got the roasted chicken...she brought it to me and I thought it was tuna because of the smell...there was dark meat/white meat and I realized this is canned chicken. Which you can buy for like 10 cents...but they are charging 2 bucks for it here... what was the sausage? vienna sausages? I returned it and had an Italian Margarita and no lunch...I was pretty drunk after that....

BTW it was just spilled into the pasta so did not look roasted...from can to plate probably didn't even rinse it!

Who or what the french is Jane Eyre? Erye? Is she an author, or is it a book called Jane Eyre? I am clearly not a huge reader. I love reading, but I read what books my MIL passes down to me. No clue as to who the author is most of the time.

It's a book by Charlotte Bronte.  A lot of people read it in English class.

Oh man! This is a fabulous UO already!

I love coffee.  I love starbucks coffee.  I love Biggby coffee.  The only coffee I don't like is my in-laws 2-day-old-reheated coffee.

I don't see the need to be snarky about the ZOMG, I'm pregnant posts, but, if you never posted much on here before, why are you coming out to tell us this?  Go to your new BMB!

I admit, I am now a GIF slore.  I'll get over it soon!

Team Aniston all the way! Team Dickens all the way! Team Jane Eyre all the way!

I love public transportation with all my fiscal-conservative soul.  I vote for money to be spent on public transit ALL. THE. TIME.  I hate living in the south because there is no decent transportation system and I wouldn't be safe on the city bus system.  I hate that Americans are so obsessed with cars!  Not for any good reason, though.  Just because I love sitting on a bus/subway/light rail and NOT DRIVING.

This.  No offense to anyone, but I am on everyday.  If I don't recognize your SN or Siggy and you magically appear out of no where to announce your pregnancy, then to be honest I kinda don't care.  That may seem really mean but we all "know" eachother now and I would only care if any of you had big news. Mine: I think it is weird when people don't walk somewhere even if it is really close, but just drive everywhere. Maybe it is because I never had a car until recently so I am used to walking places. But to my train in the morning it is a 0.4 mile walk down my street.(8 minutes) I see neighbours who live closer than me pull out of their driveway and drive to the train then park. I don't get it? It costs $4 per day to park there and it probably would take only 5 minutes for them to walk?

When I get OFF my train in the morning it is 1 mile to my office. It takes me 15 minutes to walk. If I take the subway it takes at LEAST 15 minutes usually as it's so busy and crazy in the mornings. Walking is much less stressful and more predictable - it always takes the same amount of time. But if I tell somebody I walk the mile to work, they say "wow" as though I said I walk 15 miles to work every day or something. Obviously if it is pouring rain or a snowstorm or something then I would take the subway. maybe. Sometimes I still walk. I like walking!

    Smile

Hahaha this. We recently moved to a small town where it is about 3-4 miles long. Everyone drives everywhere. People drive to the bakery when they are literally one minute walk from it. I feel like the weirdo who walks everywhere. I grew up in a city where everyone walked even if it would take 45 minutes to get somewhere.

My UO: I think girls lack self worth. I have girls who tell about guys they are into. The guys are always losers. By losers I mean, they cuss them out, or they are choosing between them and another girl. Or they have treated the girl badly before, but she is convinced that this time it will be different. These girls will put their dreams and education on hold for these guys. And it has been 90% of the girls I talk to. They don't seem to realize that they deserve a man that will respect. They don't want to wait, so they settle. It's so hard to watch, and you can only offer so much advice. This is more of a vent than an UO I guess haha.

I think it is irresponsible to take your kids on a two week vacation in the middle of the school year.  I have now two cousins that are going on vacation and will have their kids out for a two week period of time.  At the elementary school level whole concepts are taught during those times.

A friend of mine likes to disagree with me about catholic vs. public schools. She feels hers is all high and mighty, and it's all "education, education, education". Mmkay. She took her kids on vacation and they missed the first week of school. Ok cool. Disney is empty. But um, the first days of school are important, not only academically but socially! That's when kids find their friends, find lunch table buddies, etc.

I don't usually participate in the UO... but mine would be... I totally stereotype people who drive minivans. I have 3 kids and people ask when i'm getting a minivan. I say, "NEVER". I'm sure they're convenient, but I grew up driving fast cars and a motorcycle. My mom's everyday driver is a new corvette. The last thing I would ever drive is a minivan. I got one as a rental, and even though the options were nice and my boys got a kick out of the sliding doors, I wanted to put a bag over my head while I drove so people didn't see me. I'll take my gas-guzzling 7 passenger SUV anyday.

It's just not good. I was told when I was working there that 93% of their food is prepared fresh. I call bullsh!t. I will still eat there though. Their stuffed chicken marsala is good.
