Re: U/O!!

  • I also was not aware that the gifs made noise, because I don't have my speaker on ever. If they do make noise I would say it isn't necessary to hear? because I find them funny even with no noise.

Especially when they are gifs from arrested development.

  • I think it is irresponsible to take your kids on a two week vacation in the middle of the school year.  I have now two cousins that are going on vacation and will have their kids out for a two week period of time.  At the elementary school level whole concepts are taught during those times.

I don't like GIFs in all these threads  I know it is the new fad - but I can't wait until they aren't the cool thing to do.  I don't have speakers, so I don't know what the audio is, They make bumping at work more difficult b/c text and small pics on a screen is easier to hide - little movies is not as easy, and when I am on my phone it takes forever to load stuff now.  Oh well.

I don't like the ones that are short and move a lot.  They get strobe-y and make me feel like I am going to have a seizure.  I especially don't like the strobe-y ones in siggys.

I do think a well timed gif is HI-larious.  I look and giggle, but then scroll them out of the window.

  • Mine: I think it is weird when people don't walk somewhere even if it is really close, but just drive everywhere. Maybe it is because I never had a car until recently so I am used to walking places. But to my train in the morning it is a 0.4 mile walk down my street.(8 minutes) I see neighbours who live closer than me pull out of their driveway and drive to the train then park. I don't get it? It costs $4 per day to park there and it probably would take only 5 minutes for them to walk?

When I get OFF my train in the morning it is 1 mile to my office. It takes me 15 minutes to walk. If I take the subway it takes at LEAST 15 minutes usually as it's so busy and crazy in the mornings. Walking is much less stressful and more predictable - it always takes the same amount of time. But if I tell somebody I walk the mile to work, they say "wow" as though I said I walk 15 miles to work every day or something. Obviously if it is pouring rain or a snowstorm or something then I would take the subway. maybe. Sometimes I still walk. I like walking!

    Smile

  • I walked places a lot more when I lived in Boston. Nobody walks here. Plus it's hot as balls most of the year. Sometimes I think "maybe I'll walk up to walgreens..." but then I think about how much longer it will take to walk than drive and say screw it.

I also like Starbucks but not their regular coffee. I agree it tastes burned. I love the fancy, overpriced drinks, though. lol

I don't like beer much either. I can appreciate it, but I don't want to drink a whole bottle/glass. I taste H's frequently, so I am definitely giving it a fair shot.  Maybe some day....

Ernie's UO reminds me - I don't like Jane Austen. I mean, I guess I like the stories okay, b/c I will watch the movie adaptations, and I understand what all the hubbub is about, but I personally did not enjoy reading her at all.

I think Honeycrisp apples are overrated. They are watery and don't have much flavor. (I rail against them every year on ML, lol.)

I still listen to FM radio almost every day. That's not an opinion, but it's probably unpopular. Music stations, I mean. I hate NPR and don't know how people can drive around listing to it. yaaaawwwn.

Jane Austen sends me into a bit of a rage. I think her stories are inane. Emma made me want to claw my eyes out just so I could stop reading it. Want something romantic from that era? Read Jane Eyre or Villette.

  • I love love love Jane Eyre.  I could never get into Jane Austen.  I use to love Gone With the Wind but after doing my junior high school thesis on it, then my teacher showing it so she could grade the papers I can't watch or reading ever again.

I listen to mostly FM radio.  NPR stuff just bugs the sh!t out of me with the soft voices.

Oh man, Wuthering Heights is one of those books that I want to love, but all of the characters are so unlikeable. And whenever one of them almost redeems themselves, they do something to be unlikeable again. There is a new movie version coming out that looks pretty cool though.

I love coffee.  I love starbucks coffee.  I love Biggby coffee.  The only coffee I don't like is my in-laws 2-day-old-reheated coffee.

I don't see the need to be snarky about the ZOMG, I'm pregnant posts, but, if you never posted much on here before, why are you coming out to tell us this?  Go to your new BMB!

I admit, I am now a GIF slore.  I'll get over it soon!

Team Aniston all the way! Team Dickens all the way! Team Jane Eyre all the way!

I love public transportation with all my fiscal-conservative soul.  I vote for money to be spent on public transit ALL. THE. TIME.  I hate living in the south because there is no decent transportation system and I wouldn't be safe on the city bus system.  I hate that Americans are so obsessed with cars!  Not for any good reason, though.  Just because I love sitting on a bus/subway/light rail and NOT DRIVING.

  • I hate Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, and all the romantic, girl novels  from that time period (or maybe just all the novels from that time period in general).

It's the writing.  I can't stand the way the books are written, because when I read the cliff notes or watched the movies, I like the plots.

Yes I really am not a fan of driving. I'd much rather not drive. It bummed me out when we had to move to the burbs and I had a baby and then had to get a car. I wish I could get everywhere I needed to go without ever being in a car but sadly that is not the world we live in.

Luckily I am a new and nervous driver so hubby usually does most of the driving when we have places to go, especially if it involves highways. I hate highways, they make me anxious.

I love that where we live now even though we are not in boston anymore I can still get into boston and to my job without having anything to do with a car. Public transport is awesome Yes

  • LOl to the nerdy UO! I think my favorite book of all time was "Go Ask Alice". I read it when i was younger, and it was the first book that captivated me, and i couldnt put down. I am sure if you have ever read it, you probably think it was terrible and depressing. There was just something about it.

I agree with Mikehoncho on going back in time, and giving wise words to your 18 year old self. I would have loved to have a chat with young Jackie and tell her to change her major. One of the many things i would tell her.

See, Im opposite. I would have no problems taking little dude on a vacation during school time while he is in elementary. I would ask the teacher for the work of the week and BAM...  off on vacation we go. Im sure a one week vacation in the middle of April will not affect him for the rest of his days. Thats just MY opinion though.

  • Love Jane Austen (have the P&P board book).  Love Jane Eyre, cannot stand Wuthering Heights.  And I cannot stand Catcher in the Rye. I re-read it a few years ago, and good lord, is Holden Caulfield a self-centered douchebag.

I like DD coffee, though that's not remotely an Unpopular Opinion.

I hate bagpipes.  I used to like them until I went to a wedding (as a waiter) hungover and the bagpipers had to practice for an hour before the wedding.  It was agony.

I get irrationally angry when people won't take public transportation.  I work in DC and I have a friend who will drive to the hair salon rather than take the bus because she's unfamiliar with the bus route.  Instead, she has to give up her parking spot, fight traffic, find another spot, and pay for all the parking.  She's terrified of the unknown and it drives me crazy.

I guess another UO is that I get irrationally angry when people won't try something new.  A bus route, sushi, a new store, a new food, a new place, etc.

I don't get why people think Jane Eyre is so romantic, even though I love the book and the Brontes in general (and have been to their home). Mr. Rochester is a manipulative, creepy, abusive a-hole who only wants Jane after he's been humbled and realizes she's wealthy. I wish she could do better.

  • I LOVE to drive. I prefer to drive. Public transportation scares the shiiit out of me. I used to work at a counselling office (when we moved to our current city full of no film work) and we had A LOT of city bus drivers come in. Most are a cup of crazy and I cant imagine putting my life in their hands.

I will drive to the corner store. Because it is more than one corner away. I will drive to get a coffee cause I am too lazy to make one. I will drive for the sake of driving.

Next summer I am hoping to do a road trip... West to East and back. Im super excited. To drive.

And I drive an Avalanche. So it is not a prius. It is a truck.

    And I love it.
