Have we discussed this before? I've read other websites talking about Crystal Light and other drinks with aspartame in them, is ok in moderation.
Instead of coffee like most ppl, I am Crystal Light obssesed. Like if you open my top desk drawer at work right now, you'll find at least 5-6 boxes of different flavored Crystal Light. So if it's ok in moderation, how much is too much?
Do you still drink the drinks with aspartame in it? What are some other water enhancers you've found as a substitute that don't have aspartame in it? I seriously need to up my fluid intake, but just plain water (even with limes or lemons) right now is just so not appealing to me. It's so hard to drink a lot when I'm not into it.
I just mixed myself my first drink since I found out I was pregnant. Excuse me while I have some alone time with my Raspberry Lemonade.
Re: Crystal Light and other fake sugars...
I'm giving up aspartame. Between that and caffeine, there is almost nothing to drink! I've been sticking to OJ, milk and water with lemon mostly. It's getting boring, quick! I'm trying to mix in some other juices.
What about drinking real lemonade, made with sugar?
I asked my OB his opinion and he said he would rather I drink all water with crystal light than not get enough water. However, he did suggest I cut back to like 1/2 and 1/2. I will also add I never used the full amount (like the "bottle" packet would last me 3-4 bottles)
From weeks 5-8 I was drinking prob 3-4 cups a day with it and 5-6 without. Honestly, at this point I dont really like the crystal light as much as cold ice water now. I made a cup of it today and then didn't enjoy it at all
. I also like some icey lemon water and peppermint tea over ice.
I have been stearing away from aspartame. But if I really wanted something with aspartame, I would be okay having it, just not every day.
I have been buying juice and watering it down greatly. Like 1/3 juice and 2/3 water, so I still get the flavor but it's not over powering. Also, we buy Sobe Lifewater. Some of them have no artifical sweeteners and are 0 calories.
It's probably a good thing that I lower my intake anyways even when not pregnant, but I'm defintely going to be cautious of my intake now that I am. I'm going to have to think of something else to help with my fluids, but I think one a day won't hurt.
Plus all these boxes will go to waste.
Aspratame crosses the placenta so its best to stay away from them. its best to stay away from them when you arent pregnant. Its chemicals. I like crystal light pure. it does not have aspartame in it.
aspartame is in alot of stuff so you have to read the labels, like yogurt, gum, diet soda, etc.
I use real sugar in my coffee, its only14 calories for a tablespoon. and I drink skim milk, calcium fortified OJ, water and clear and natural sparkling water.

This. Also, my doctor said she doesnt see anything wrong with Stevia and even Splenda in smaller amounts. There are probably some drink mixes made with stevia, thats natural, at least.
