Babies: 6 - 9 Months

When can they have things like Cheese and yogurt?

Over the weekend, Tiny had a grilled cheese at Grandma's and some quesadilla at a mexican restaurant. Then I started to think about it, I don't actually remember what the age for Cheese was. =/

  • thanks. I sent an email to our pedi over the weekend. My baby food book said 6-7 months. He didn't have any issues with it. So I guess we're safe.

Our pedi said it was fine in moderation at this age. Just watch for allergies, like you would with any other food. :)

  • I seem to remember introducing it to DD when she was around 8 months, but I've given both to DS and he's done fine with it.

  • DS started yogurt at 6 months as per pedi because he was on his first antibiotic and it was causing horrible diarrhea, so we did yogurt for the probiotics.

We started offering shredded cheese within the past month. He's not a fan, but no issues to report.

  • :) we started probably around 7 1/2 - 8 months. She loves cheese and yogurt. I don't follow the traditional guidelines- I go with what my pedi says and he is open to almost everything other than eggs, shelfish and peanut butter- but i even remember doing those before or right at a year with my first.
  • I've started yogurt at 4 months.  No cheese yet mainly because I haven't thought about it.  He's 7 months so I'll try.
  • It's fine as of 6 months. I give her yogurt almost every day.
  • My pedi gave us the clear to start giving solids at 5 months...... we did purees for a month and then at the 6 month appointment he said that we could definitely start with finger foods and the only things that were off limits were milk (drinking by itself, milk products are fine) and raw honey
  • Canada Health says everything except honey can be given starting at 6 months.  My daughter (8 months) has been eating cheese for a few weeks already and I mix yogurt in with her cereal.
