OK, I have a stupid a/s question

So, our a/s is scheduled for next Wednesday. As I am reading baby books etc. on what happens each week, I am starting to wonder if they scheduled it too early. I will be 17w4d.

Will things be developed enough to tell if there are problems? Should I reschedule for later? I mean, it's pretty close to 18w & the window is 18-22 weeks. They'd tell me if I had to go back to see things though. It would be nice to just get it over with (AND find out boy/girl status!!) I'm overthinking this, aren't I? Ahhhhhhhh!

What should I do?

Standard unhelpful bump response, I know, but could you call your doctor's office and ask? With DS, I remember my doc's office wouldn't do it before 20 weeks--I couldn't make it that week, so it ended up being 21 1/2, I think.... but I have no idea if that is standard or if the wider window of 18 to 22 is more common.

Yeah, SIGH, I could call. LOL! The office doesn't do it though, so I'd call the ultrasound part of the hospital specifcally. They did say 18-22 weeks though, and I am close. They picked the date, not me, so I guess I'm off the hook for responsibility? haha.

If they scheduled it, then I guess it's safe to assume they knew what they were doing. But you know I'm a worrier, so I know I'd probably end up calling anyway. LOL

I would def call to double check. I know I'd be PISSED if I had an apt scheduled and they couldn't see anything. Just make the call...it will only take you 2 minutes Stick out tongue

Knowing how strict my doctor was on a 19-20 week range (yes, he wouldn't even do it before 19 weeks!) I would call to double check. He seemed to indicate that there was a much higher rate of accuracy the closer to 20 weeks I was.

I actually had mine done at my 16 week visit because the birth center was a really long drive for me and I didn't want to have to wait till my 20 week appt. to find out. They saw everything they needed to and were able to tell me that I was having a hazel

OK, I appreciate you trying to help. What I really wanted to hear though was that it's OK to go & find out the sex, then reschedule everything else! Hahahahaha.

Yeah, I will have to call. Sad Bummer! I am so freakin' excited to find out what we are having though!!!!!! I keep having boy" dreams! Plus, I did the pee on baking soda test & it foamed up (2 different times) indicating boy. hehehe.

Oh, dude, why didn't you just tell us? Let me revise my answer:

SM, just go and find out what gender you are having, and if they need to see you again, they can just reschedule you! That's their problem.

I thought that you didn't want to have to make 2 trips, but seriously, if you are ok with that, just go and don't say anything!

I thought it was crazy when my BFFs dr did her scan at 16 weeks, mine wouldn't do it before 20. But they were able to check everything out and told her she was having a girl!

Ya know, it doesn't really matter to me. I just want to know if my crazy dreams are right or not! I had one that somehow, I could see IN my ute & saw the babe (and that it was a boy!) I know it's cliche, but I really do just want to have a healthy baby.

What an awesome dream! You really do have ute goggles. Haha. I'll have to remember that when we go for number 2.

I don't think it's cliche to just want a healthy baby. I will admit that I would like to have a girl. But I think it would be equally adorable to have two boys! So just whatever is healthy is perfect.

If your office scheduled it, I'd say you're good! I know mine wouldn't do it before 20w either... I tried to have them move up DS1's a/s by 2 weeks for my b-day and they said no!!

We had our level II with the MFM at 17w1d and they could definitely see everything they needed. We did have to keep going back every 2 weeks because they discovered a kidney issue, which sucked, but I'd say it's a pretty good scan if they can discover a kidney issue at that point.

I would keep the appt., if they can't get all the info they need because it is too early then I guess you will just have to have another ultrasound...bummer

I agree!

I had my amnio at 16 1/2 weeks for this pg & right before they did the amnio, they had to do an anatomy scan. They were able to tell us everything looked good so far & that we were having a girl. But, I still needed to go back for my regular A/S at 20 weeks to get a more detailed look. They said some things (sorry, can't remember specifically), weren't developed enough yet at 16 weeks to get a clear look at.

I'm sure they'll be able to accurately tell you at 17 weeks since the accuracy rate is insanely high at the NT scan. BUT I would call and just double check.

They scheduled my NT scan for when I was 14 weeks and 2 days (the doc said "come between xdate and xdate" but got my dates mixed up). I remembered reading that the last possible date to do an NT scan was 13 weeks and 6 days and I would have been past that window. I called, they thanked me for catching their mistake and I had the scan today instead. Just call and ask - no harm! They'll probably say it's fine.
