2nd Trimester

Weight?

Do any of you ladies FEEL like you've gained weight, can SEE your body expanding (thicker arms, butt, thighs, big boobs), but haven't actually gained any weight??

I'm 15w1d and at my last OB appointment (last week), I had only gained half a pound since my first OB appointment at 9w2d...which could have easily been the bowl of cereal I ate before the appointment!

Is anyone else in this same situation? I'm NOT complaining...just wondering if I'm normal. Confused

Re: Weight?

  • totally normal. especially with your first pregnancy. I don't think I gained any weight with my first until I was 20+ weeks.

  • I started gaining at about 14 weeks. It was SLOW at first but eventually went up to about a pound a week.

It depends on what your body is like before  you got pregnant too though.  Most of the people I know who were bigger sizes before getting pregnant actually ended up losing weight at the beginning (my guess is because they started eating healthier because of the baby).

Just keep eating healthy and exercising and I'm sure you'll be fine.

  • I was up 5.5 lbs total at 12 weeks, then down .5 from that at 17 weeks. Not all that concerned, just happy the bloat has subsided!
  • At weeks I was up 3.5 lbs, now at 16 weeks im exactly the same-up only 3.5 in total but i feel like its much more, and i feel like i look pregnant! I bet no one notices-you do because its your body but I bet if someone saw you they wouldnt think you look any difference. Unless your dr expresses concern i wouldnt worry!
  • Totally normal to gain little to nothing your first half of pregnancy.  With DD, I gained maybe 5lbs up to 20w and then ended up gaining a total of 50.  Yeesh.

  • Everyone's different. I've pretty much been gaining a pound a week since I found out I was pregnant...even when I restricted my food intake at the request of my doctor I've still continued to gain. Of course, some of that is likely because I went from exercising every day to no exercise b/c of a placenta issue. I figure my body is really into pregnancy and loves the break to my usually restrictive diet and exercise plan.LOL

  • I've only gained 2 pounds and with my previous pregnancies I was still negative at this point so I would say normal.

  • I'm jealous.  I gained 2 lbs in 1st tri, but have consistently gained 1 lb/week since then (now in week 18).  I thought this was normal, but my mom and sister told me they gained 20lbs total across all their pregnancies.  I'm tracking to gain at least 30.  I know that's "normal," but I'd prefer to keep it to under 25.

I generally eat healthy (except for my once a day sweet tooth indulgence) and am eating about 2000 calories/ day, about 200 more / day than pre-pregnancy.  I'm doing light exercise 3-5 days/wk.  Thought that would help keep me to about .5lbs/week, but no.

I'm cool with it - but would prefer to gain a bit slower. I'm sure your body is doing exactly what it needs to do - so you are fine and are lucky to stay in your regular clothes for longer.
