Hello ladies,
I hope this message finds you all well
My fiance and I (we actually wed tomorrow!) are TTC. He's 40 and I'm 35. I have two children 14 and 12.
Our first couple of cycles we didnt' really do anything other than just do our fun stuff as we could. Now that we are completing the wedding I want to start paying a little closer attention so that over the next few months I've got all my ducks in a row and have information to take to the docs when it's time. (He has low motility and needs an analysis since the last one he had was from like 10 years ago).
Anyway, I've started taking my BBT. And... is it supposed to be the same temperature every day? I set my alarm, I have a BBT thermometer, I take it orally, so it's the same time each day. But, one day it's 96.8, then it's 97.3 then it was actually 98 something, then back to 97 something and then today it's 96.8... these are temps for like 5 days in a row.
Here's the thing, I have insomnia and I'll take medication to help that and the morning I had the high temp, well, we had a massive storm, I didn't sleep, I tossed and turned and my anxiety was high.
So, does sleep pattern affect your temp? How much of "don't move at all when you wake up" impacts the temp? I mean, per my cervical mucus my body is doing it's usual thing but my temp readings are making my chart look funny.
So for those of you who have taken your BBT for a long time, I'm just curious how things affect your temps. Any advice or experiences you can share would be greatly appreciated ![]()
THank you so much!!!!
Re: *gah* BBT confusion
You temps will go up & down depending on what phase you are in during your cycle. I suggest checking out fertilityfriend.com You can sign up for free & start charting your temps on there. This site will figure out what your coverline is & when you might have ovulated. I also recommend reading Taking Control Of Your Fertility. This book is great & explains it all in laymens terms.
You should try not to move for about 3 hrs before taking your temp - so if you wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroon & then only go back to sleep for an hr - your temp might show higher then it would have been. Fertility Friend will also email you tutorials explaining all the different signs & how to chart.
See my chart below. I just started my period, so not much too look at - but if you click on my chart, you should be able to look at my previous charts & see how things may look for you. After you ovulate, your temps will usually rise up. Right before you get your period, they usually drop back down. If they stay up then that could mean you are pregnant. Usually 18 high temps in a row after ovulation is a good sign - but not a guarantee of pregnancy.
If you go fertility friend and you search the Chart Gallery you will see that temperatures do not stay the same they jump around quite a bit. Depending on the woman there can be some huge jumps.
That being said, my temperatures rarely show big shifts, other than the expected raise in temps during LP.
I temp at the same time of day (most days) but immediately before I actually "wake up" and get out of bed. I don't worry to much about nights when I've had restless sleep, because I haven't noticed too significant a change between a restfull nights sleep and a restless one.
