TTC After a Loss

Miscarriage

Forgive me if this isn't the correct forum for this...

I am or was 6 weeks pregnant but I'm currently having a miscarriage. This is my third miscarriage but my other two were missed miscarriages which required DC's. Can anyone tell me what you do when you miscarry at this point? Do you need to have an u/s to see if it all came out? How long does the bleeding last? How painful can it be?

Sorry for so many q's! I went to doc yesterday who was less then helpful and wouldn't even give me an u/s...

Re: Miscarriage

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I have no advice for you as both of my losses were missed m/c's and I had D&C's for them. Hopefully someone else can help you.

Also, would you mind removing your pregnancy ticker or putting a warning in your title?

  • I am so sorry for your losses.

Make sure that your doctor tracks your betas to make sure your body is processing everything ok. Then I would request repeated loss bloodwork so that you don't have to go through this again.

  • I'm so sorry you're going through this.  My 1st was a missed m/c, and my 2nd was natural.  As soon as I started spotting I called my OB.  I went in right away so they could check my betas.  They continued checking until my levels were below 5.  I bled for about a week.  It was very painful when I was passing things... luckily that only lasted a few hours.  The rest was similar to AF bleeding and cramping.  The process is longer than a d&c, so emotionally it's pretty rough.  I can only speak for myself.  I'm sure other ladies here have had different experiences.

    I'm sorry again!  ((HUGS))

  • I'm so sorry for your loss.  I had a natural miscarriage and my dr wanted me to come in afterward.  I did have an u/s where she confirmed that everything had passed naturally.  She wanted to do the u/s to make sure there wasn't any remaining tissue/etc left.  Personally, my bleeding lasted about a week. From what I have seen on this board, that is fairly short.  I did not find the m/c to be very painful, it was more like I was incredibly uncomfortable and couldn't lie down - I needed to be standing up or sitting on the toilet (sorry, that might be TMI).  I'm sorry that you are going through this - it sucks that this board has to exist, but it is also a great place for comfort and support.  Sending ((hugs)) your way.

  • I'm also sorry for your loss.

I had a natural m/c as well. It was a long process (about 2 weeks) before it was all over. The pain, bleeding and passing was intense for quite a few hours and then I bled like a normal AF for a about a week after. I did go see the doctor a couple of days later to see if I would need an u/s. They had decided not to send me for one since the worst was over and my bleeding had gotten better. They didn't keep track of my beta either. She just told me when to expect my first AF and if I didn't get it within that time frame then to go back.

I've heard that the pain depends on how far along you are. A girlfriend of mine was 4 weeks and said it felt like a normal AF. I was 9 weeks(baby was 6 weeks in size) and it was extreme. I know it sounds strange, but I kind of found it helpful to anticipate the worst. I was able to get through the pain better because I had expected it to be worse than AF cramping.

  • I am sorry that you are going through this and not getting much help from your doctor definitely doesn't make things any better. I m/c around 7 weeks. I found out on a Sunday that I was miscarrying and the doctor and I wanted to wait to see if my body would naturally "get rid" of everything on its own. I started bleeding around 4 days after I got the bad news and bled for approximately 2 weeks off and on. The cramping was more severe at the beginning, but much ibuprofen and an occasional pain pill took care of the pain. :) It took approximately 3-4 weeks for my beta levels to finally reach 0. Hope this somewhat helps and best of luck!

  • I'm currently going through a m/c as well. I will say this: Everyone's body reacts differently. I've seen people say they've had no pain, my best friend had no pain when she went through hers. I on the other hand have been in excruciating pain since Monday when the majority of it happened. My doctor did an u/s on me Tuesday to make sure I was doing okay naturally. But if you do get lasting pain, call your doctor so that she can prescribe something to help ease it. OTC painkillers did nothing for me. I also didn't want to eat much, make sure you do get some food down. My doctor told me a m/c can take up to 7-10 days, but that's not the case for everyone. My doctor also told me no sex, no tampons and no baths because there's a risk of infection.
