Dads & Dads-to-be

Ten Things Thursday

OK, take 2 on 10 Things Thursday.  For those who are new, its just listing 10 things going on in your life, whether it is baby, work, hobby, etc. related.

1) NFL season has finally started!!!  My team, the Colts, isn't likely to make too much noise this season, but I'm figuring somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 wins.

2) My favorite baseball team is making noise for the wrong reasons.  The Cubs are fighting to not lose 100 and losing that battle.  I'm not surprised, one of the guys I work with, I told back on opening day that if they lost less than 100 games it would be a miracle.

3) I'm glad it is pay day for my wife.  We could use some additional food options in the house for everyone and see a grocery store run in our future tonight.

4)  We have been working with picture flash cards to try to expand our son's vocabulary and it is paying off.  Out of the 30 or so cards, he can now say over half of them.  He's probably well over 50 words now.

5) We are already starting to plan our son's 2nd birthday party, and he doesn't turn 2 until mid December.  I admit, my wife and I are planners.

6) Less than a month until we have the anatomy scan on J's brother or sister, and we can finally stop wondering.  Looking forward to it.

7) While I will be happy with either, and ultimately just want a healthy baby, if this one is a girl, I would be very happy with that.

8) I survived this Labor Day weekend at my job and in theory, should have it pretty easy until Thanksgiving, which I fortunately have that week off this year, so for me, it'll be more towards Christmas.  Very thankful for an easier time, from the week of Memorial Day until Labor Day is our busiest long term stretch of the year.

9) My wife and I have started transitioning our son to his twin bed in his new room, but not with very good results yet.  I battled him for just over an hour yesterday and he won.  My wife posted a short transcript on the December 2010 board.

10) My 20 month old has developed his own football stance.  He will get down on his knees, then bend over and put his pointer finger from each hand down on the ground.  He only does this when I get into a 3 point stance with his stuffed football.  It is pretty cute, and I love that he's getting the concept.

Re: Ten Things Thursday

  • 1) My Vols are looking good this year- if everyone can stay healthy.

     2) My DirecTV install went well a few days ago- free NFL Sunday Ticket for this season as part of the promo.

    3) Today is my 1 month anniversary at my new job.

    4) Today is my nephew's 4th birthday. If my BIL can wrestle him from his crazy mother we will have a sweet party.

    5) Started focusing hard on not gaining any more weight. My wife's pregnancy so far has put 15 lbs on me. I don't blame her.

    6)  My wife and I finally decided on the colors we want to use in the nursery.

    7) I have solidified my position on my SIL's shi*list. I am proud of this because she is a miserable person. :)

    8) My baseball team is 42-95.. very fitting when their new pitcher's last name is "Abad". Because they are "A-awful".

    9) I ate some grapes for breakfast. See #5.

    10) My wife will be 22 weeks pregnant tomorrow- this is flying by.

  • 1) College football will finally be in full swing for me tonight when Cincinnati hosts Pitt.  Unfortunately, I won't be able to watch the game.

    2) I just want to take a moment to thank the Cubs and the Lastros for helping make the Reds current season possible.

    3) I have had a ton of overtime looming over my head, but they keep pushing it back.  I think next week is when it will finally hit and crush all free time I have.

    4) Over the holiday weekend my wife took her first PT since our loss.  It was negative and at first she handled it pretty well, but later in the day it pretty well crushed her.  If her family hadn't been in town to give her a distraction I think it would have been a pretty miserable weekend.

    5) The in-laws were in town over the holiday weekend and MIL started apartment hunting in our area.  The place she really likes is about 1 mile from our house. Really not sure how I feel about that.

    6) Yesterday was my wife's birthday.  We had friends over to celebrate.

    7) I've started car shopping online.  Both of our cars are nearing the end and I am not excited about potentially having to replace both of them at the same time.

    8) I miss video games.  I haven't been able to play anything for awhile.

    9) These 10 things get harder as you go.  I really want to give up and just do 7 but I'm going to power though.

    10) We had to put a new deck on our house this summer because the old one was rotting.  Yesterday I got a cheap leaf blower to get the leaves off the deck.  It was awesome to only have to spend about 30 seconds clearing the deck.

I think Luck is going to establish himself as a premier QB by the end of the season.  You could really see flashes in the preseason.  There will obviously be growing pains but he is going to be on point sooner than later.

  • Oh trust me, it isn't Luck that I lack faith in, I think the Colts caught lightning in a bottle when they got to transition from Manning to Luck with only one season in between since Peyton didn't play at all last year.  I think the problem is going to lie with the lack of overall talent spread throughout the team (especially the offensive line) and the tons of new faces having to adjust to a brand new system.  I think the Colts could finish as low as 3-13, and maybe as high as 8-8 if all goes right, so I'm playing the middle and figuring in the neighborhood of 5 wins, which is 3 better than last year.
  • 1. This is late bc my days are officially starting to run together since my foster daughters started school.

    2. Job hunting is so damn depressing and to top it off my boss from my last seasonal job appears to be ignoring me.

    3. With no response from my email or call about coming back now that the season has started again my depression with not having a job is starting to loom over me.

    4. We are at 9wks some days with our surrogate and I feel like it's going by so slowly!

    5. My 6yr old foster daughter isn't taking the change in her schedule of going back to school very well but at least she likes school.

    6. I wish I could find some adults to hang out with in my area. I suck at that though.

    7. I'm still feeling on the fence about staying home when our kid is born.

    8. I'd really like to pay off 3k of debt and get two new windows by the end of Jan. and going back to work would sure help.

    9. I'm so glad that once we get my wife's car paid off I won't HAVE to work from a financial standpoint. It takes some pressure off.

    10. I'm excited to go to Rochester, NY this weekend to a kid's consignment shop we really like. They are having their massive winter clothing sale and I love saving money!
