Pregnant after 35

Introduction

Hi Everyone!! I'm 40 yrs old, soon to be 41 (Oct 19) and 17 wks 3 days pregnant with my 3rd child. My two older children are 18 & 19 (soon to be 20)!! This has been an emotional roller coaster to say the least, but my other half is extremely excited! I have finally let the cat out of the bag at work so now most people know I am pregnant and are getting excited and pampering me and whatnot. One thing is for certain I am definitely more financially sound and more mature then when I had my first two. I'm so hoping for a boy (might find out today at my appointment). I love both of my children, but my daughter was H3LL to raise (lol). She gave me a lot of grief and early gray hair! I do love her. As a side note, she has two babies of her own, so they will have a younger aunt/uncle, so funny.

I'm glad to have found this forum and hope to share some fun (and maybe not so fun) times with all of you :D

Re: Introduction

  • Congratulations! I always think its so funny that I'm actually old enough to have grandbabies - but am still making my own (I turned 41 in July).

  • Wonderful! Congratulations and welcome aboard! Just wondering, how would you say prenatal care has changed since you were pregnant with your older children? I'm just curious because I am already 41 and just now pregnant for the first time.

  • Congrats!  I'm currently the mother of five girls. LOL... don't faint.  It hasn't been bad at all. I'm blessed to have very easy going girls for the most part.

We are hoping this last baby is a boy - just for the variety!  Good luck to you :)

  • Thanks Danuli I would say it has changed greatly for me in that when I was pregnant with both of my older children I was in the military and they would put me on bed rest for just about anything. Now-a-days my OB/GYN says that there is no conclusive evidence that suggest bed rest helps at all and may actually be harmful. I think there are a lot more tests now as well, I don't recall having so many options for testing, but this may be because I'm "advanced maternal age". Lastly, I think the best part (but sometimes the scariest) is that there is such a wealth of information on the web! I didn't have internet until my kids were about 10 and 12 so I really only had books or the doctor's word to go by. I like the fact that I can look things up myself, but find myself becoming a hypochondriac because of it (lol).
