So I've been having pelvic pain the past couple of weeks, each day it's getting worse. It feels like my pelvic bone is being spread apart. By yesterday evening I could barely walk through the grocery store to get a few things. I felt like I was having contractions, but nothing consistent. It already feels like he has dropped really low onto my pelvis. I could feel his head about two fingertips above my pelvic bone the other night.
So I called the nurse earlier to ask her if I should move my appointment from next Friday up to this week. I'm a bit concerned since my daughter dropped early and she was born prematurely. She calls me back and tells me that I should buy a support belt to try and if that doesn't work, that I should just go to L&D.
What? I can go buy the support belt, though I'm not sure that's going to help. But why go directly to L&D? Why no go see the midwife first?
Has anyone else used a support belt to help pelvic pain? I'm not sure how it's going to help. My ab muscles are still really tight and my belly isn't that big for almost 7 1/2 months.
Re: Pelvic Pain? Would support belt help?
i was told to get the prenatal cradle for similar pelvic pain. I have not done it yet though. Some say it helps a lot & other do not find much relief. It's worth a shot though if your pain is that intenst. It doesn't matter how tight your abs are. The ligaments & tendons are still relaxing & things are shifting and the baby is getting bigger increasing the pressure on the area.
I'm not sure about your practice but in mine once in third tri any issue that arises in between appointments & cannot wait until the next scheduled is usually sent to L&D.
Thanks. I'll try to find one tonight to buy. I wonder if Target has them. I realize it's my pelvic bones spreading apart, but isn't this too soon? The pain started at 6 1/2 months. If I hadn't already had a premature baby, I don't think I'd be concerned about it at all. Just wondering from other mama's who did go full term, when did the baby drop and the waddling start? I already waddle like I'm about to give birth any moment now.
lol I was told every pregnany is different, but soon as i started putting on that weight i could tell right away i was getting to heavy for myself. I started waddling at the end of the 4th month. Before you leave your house i would call target, walmart and other places to see if they have any belts in stock.
Its most likely this:

Its really common in pregnancy.. I had it with my last pregnancy and it was very disabling.. I couldn't get in and out of bed, get dressed, climb stairs, etc without a lot of pain. It got to the point where I slept in a recliner from 36 weeks on because it was too painful to roll over in bed at night. This pregnancy, I started seeing a chiropractor weekly as soon as I started having the pain and it has made a TON of difference. I highly recommend finding a chiro that specializes in pregnant women and trying that a few times..good luck!
edit: I definitely would not go to L&D for pelvic pain unless you are having contractions or some other symptom of pre-term labor. With my last pregnancy, the pain started around 12 weeks and this time around 25 weeks..neither time did I end up in pre-term labor. I'm a little surprised your nurse felt that was a symptom of pre-term labor..
I have been having the same pain especially at night. But i went out and spend $40 on a belt...IT DOES NOT WORK! Well for me anyway...i dont think its worth the money spend i would have much rather have spent it on getting my toes done before i have my LO! I just thought that it was really uncomfortable around the belly. And I dont think that it worked for the pain either! The only comfort i have found is putting ice packs and heat pack on and taking tylonol!
I have the Prenatal Cradle from target and I where it every time I work and or walk for long periods of time. It is a godsend for me. I have a previous hip injury that has been exasperated by this pregnancy. I do not know what I would do without that thing! Hopefully you find some relief.
I have one and it's really helping. I didn't think it was in the beginning, but now if I don't wear it, I am SO uncomfortable.
It doesn't take the pelvic pain away, but it certainly does allow me to have longer periods of standing/walking than I would otherwise have.
