How much did the tooth fairy give your kid?

https://abcnews.go.com/blogs/business/2012/09/tooth-fairy-gave-3-on-average-this-year/

We haven't had a visit from the tooth fairy yet.  But this article says the national average was $3 per tooth.  How much will/did the tooth fairy give your LO?

Re: How much did the tooth fairy give your kid?

  • When ds was 5/6 a few bucks in change did the job. He liked coins better than bills. Now he gets 5 bucks. Did I mention he's terrified of the idea of a lady sneaking into his bedroom at night sticking stuff under his pillow? Well for the last five years we've had to tell the tooth fairy to leave the goods in the mailbox.

  • We just had this discussion in the office recently.

When I was a kid we always got more for the first tooth, maybe $5, and then $1 for every tooth after that.

I said with inflation, it's probably around $10 for the first tooth and $2 for every tooth after that.

  • When I was a kid it varied greatly depending on whose house I happened to be at.  That tooth fairy needs to get her shiit together and be consistent.  I will probably do a dollar.  I don't want to be cheap but I usually have a dollar.  Bigger amounts might mean late night ATM breaking large bill runs.

  • We got $1 and a pack of sugar free gum.

I'll probably do the same for my kids.

  • I like the idea of a silver dollar.  I don't even remember how much my mom left us because it was always some bill (5, 10, 20?  I can't remember).  But a silver dollar would be memorable and it's not excessive.

  • Usually she leaves 2-3 dollars. That's enough to excite DS. Luckily he hasn't lost any at dad's. She'd probably leave a 20 or something since his house is so much more awesome than mine.

I will do what my mom did and give a silver dollar.

+1 I always thought they were SO cool too! I never wanted to spend them. Then my parents switched to 50 cent pcs, which was way more cool because they were bigger. I didn't care about spending the money, I liked the way it sounded.

  • We give $2, they already all know this. We aren't going to change it up because there would be squacking, L and T already "know" about the tooth fairy. Plus, $2 looks cool:

  • We do a dollar gold coin.

This is my plan. Unless inflation happens and all the kids at school get more. I don't want him to feel like the tooth fairy likes him less. If he gets more he's putting it in the bank though.  People who slip $20 bills ruin it for the rest of us.

I wish our money was made of metal and had a bear on it.  Canada is badass.

Well those are awesome...maybe I'll just teach my kids that the tooth fairy is Canadian so I can give those out!

    I don't remember but I'm guessing a dollar.

I'll probably do one of the dollar coins.

  • I'll give a Sacajawea dollar per tooth.  I've been hoarding them the last couple of years so we have enough.

  • My sister gave her kids $20 for the first tooth and $5 for each tooth thereafter. I think that is utterly ridiculous.

I'm thinking $1 a tooth. Not sure if the first one will be worth more or not. If it is, maybe $5 for the first.

  • Probably a $1. Guess I'm cheap.

This is my siggy. Love it.

  • Ooh, I just read all the comments. I like all the ideas of a fancy coin. Or maybe a $2 bill?

This is my siggy. Love it.

  • Maybe i'll do a euro.  I still have some hanging out from when we went to Italy.  but then gold dollars.

  • We haven't had a visit yet either, but I was thinking a dollar a tooth.  That's what I got as a kid.
