lurked on Jan 2013 brd.. "Black Friday"...

They were discussing their thoughts on Black Friday this year...

so what are you gals doing about black friday? Think you'll skip with being bigger and more awkward around that time? Planning on buying online only? Or are you hardcore and plan on totally doing your norm?

  • I don't think I've ever gone out shopping on Black Friday, so I'll be doing the same as usual - nothing! :-)

  • I have never done the Black Friday thing, and I certainly won't with a big bump. People get terribly hurt every year durin Black Friday, which is just ridiculous. I buy gifts throughout the fall and winter so there is never a big financial crunch. I may partake in cyber Monday, but only because much of my holiday shopping is done online anyway.

Same here! I have never had any desire to go shopping on Black Friday. The sales aren't worth it to me. Plus, this year I will have to work anyway, and when I get home I would much prefer to start decorating for Christmas rather than shopping!

  • I am buying my much wanted Dyson this year. Will do the research so I know when to go where. If I don't feel up to it, I will ask DH to go in my place. But that vac is a must!
  • We really don't have black Friday in Canada. They try to put on some sales but nothing great. My mom for a to the states and gets me some stuff.

  • Unfortunately I have a second job (one day a week now that LO is on the way!) and its in a retail store and Black Friday is a mandatory work day for all employees. Last year i worked 13 hours (11:30pm (opened at midnight-12:30pm) It was the longest day ever!!! This year, I will be telling them I can only work the minimum amount of hours and if they don't like it then they can fire me!

  • I will probably go. I love to quilt and JoAnn Fabrics usually has a great black Friday sale. It's not a trampling madhouse though, just an hour long wait at the cutting line.

  • I've also never done the Black Friday shopping. I hate shopping at the store when it's busy anyways so I've never wanted to even put myself in that position! Especially not with my pregnancy bitchiness! lol :)

  • I went 2 years ago and I count it as one of the worse days of my life.  We left at 4am and didn't get home till 8pm. I might go to one store if I feel the sale is big enough.
  • I don't do black friday when I am not pregnant. No sale is worth waking up at the crack ass of dawn. No thank you.

  • The last couple of years my hubby and I went to Target on Black Friday and ended up having a great time. Sure some ppl can b a little crazy and get caught up w/ stupid stuff, but I think if u keep it cool, plan ahead and know exactly what u r buying it can b so worth it. I'm not 100% sure if we r doing it again this year or not (it depends on how I'll feel around that time) but I would love to score some deals for our new home and baby :)

  • The malls in my area usually are dead by 10 AM and all the good deals are still on at that time.... I fully intend on going shopping at a normal time (aka after 10) on Black Friday.

    BabyFruit Ticker
  • My mom and I have gone the last couple years, but it always exhausts me. I think I may let this one go by unless there are some phenomenal deals on baby gear that I can't pass up. Otherwise, I will decorate for Christmas (which I normally do anyway on Black Friday) and try to score some stuff on Cyber Monday.

  • I hate being in crowded places, especially with crabby grumpy people who've been up all night standing in line, I just do my shopping online or start Christmas shopping in October.

  • I'm not a big fan of Black Friday. If there's any really good deals on baby stuff, we might participate in "Cyber Monday". We are making most of our Xmas gifts this year to save money for LO.

I totally read this as "doing your mom" I don't know what's wrong with me.

I've never been a huge black Friday person, but this year I might have some things to look for!

  • I've only done black Friday once and I was probably 10 and I told myself never again. My MIL and her sisters go every year on thanksgiving they get all the ads out then make a game plan. We've already started Christmas shipping so I'll just do cyber Monday!

  • How far along will we be then?

    Hold on, checking pregnology...

29 weeks-ish. Ok, well I never do the "camp out, race people into the store" thing because no deal is worth getting trampled for, but I might go out later in the day. 29 weeks isn't bad. I taught long days on my feet until 36 weeks last time and survived. Well, I did have a premature baby, but I felt ok until then.

There's nothing I need badly enough to wake up early or camp out in line for, but I'll check out the sales later in the day.

  • I don't think it'll keep me from going out. My mom and I usually go together, we avoid the mall but hit Target and Fred Meyer.

  • It depends on what the deals are. I went to Target and Walmart last year. I will never ever do Walmart again. Target was ok but didn't really have that awesome of deals. Maybe I'll see what other places have to offer and see how I feel about it then.

  • I have to miss out on Black Friday shopping this year, and I am super bummed. We moved to a town that is 2.5 hours from a bigger town. I love getting out early and shopping. I think it's so much fun, and it totally puts me in the Christmas spirit. I guess I'll just do it all on the internet this year. I'll just have to play Christmas music while I do it.

  • I am going but I usually only do Carter's and Osh Kosh outlets at midnight.  I will probably do that o stock up on sleepers and such for the baby, but other than that we don't get too crazy!

This.  The only thing that would make me get out of bed to go shopping on that day is if there was a really really great deal on something I need for babies. Otherwise I pass. My SIL always tries to get me to go, but no.

This! Heck, even last year when DD was only 3 months old, I left her for her first overnight stay with my in-laws! DH and I did stop in to give her a 2 am feeding on way between stores!

  • We normally go, however with the baby on the way I'm not sure we will be buying too much stuff.  If there is something that we feel we really need and it's a great deal we will be out and about shopping though (I say this, but may change my mind as it gets closer).

  • I've only done black friday once, because my mil asked to come along. I will never do that again! I'll probably do cyber monday (amazon has awesome deals - got android phones for $0.01 each last year!).

My mil is going though, and will more than likely be buying stuff for baby.

  • I'm a cyber monday kind of gal, so nothing will change for me!  Besides I'll be across the country for black friday so there's very little I can think of that I could buy and fly back with in my luggage....maybe a video moniter or something? I dont know.

I would rather pay full price than deal with the Black Friday craziness. I prefer to spend my day eating leftovers and decorating for Christmas.

    AMEN!

  • I'm actually thinking this will be my first "real" Black Friday experience (like PPs, I've gone later in the day before). We have friends who said they got an awesome deal on all their nursery furniture so I'm hoping we can do the same!

  • No way! I will be staying home! I used to work retail and had to work black friday way to many times! Sleep is more important then shopping!

That's what I'm screaming...I'm all about a sale, but I love my sleep more.

Plus, I think according to my schedule I'll be working that day.  Good, people can shop and not hurt themselves and not come into my ER...please.

  • I've never gone out for black friday and don't plan to start this year lol! I worked in retail for years because I had no other option and hated having my Thanksgiving cut short for midnight sales (I don't do well without sleep so I spent my whole day dreading that night and pissed off I had to work on the one family based holiday left) and the like and hated every customer who walked in the door ensuring I'd be doing it again the next year (although I hid it well and was friendly because that was what I was paid to do). So I will never shop on Black Friday in protest, especially not a midight/5am opening.

  • I love Black Friday!  However, I'm not convinced that at 28ish weeks that I'll be able to keep up like the last few years or  be able to stay awake.  I think I might just wait until cyber Monday.
