Anyone's LO still not taking a sippy?

Or are we the only ones? I have tried three different types of sippys and all she does is chew on the end. I don't think I have stressed about so much, even sleep training and BFing! I want her to be off the bottle at 12 months. Argh!

  • We can't try a sippy yet with DD2, but with DD1 she wouldn't take a sippy until we took her bottles away.  We took them away cold turkey at 13 months once she was transitioned to whole milk.  She went 2 days where she didn't drink much at all and then caught on.  We used Nuby and Nuk Learner sippy cups.

  • DD only drinks from them if they are stolen from her brother.  I suppose it is her version of a victory dance.

  • I just bought sippies last weekend and she really doesn't use them yet.  I give her one after she has dinner but she mostly just plays with it.  She's not using it for real yet.

  • I gave one to him for about a month. At every solid food time. He would do the same thing. Sometimes, maybe once in a blue moon he would get some out and be in shock. Like what just happened? Then nothing for weeks. After a while he got it and now he is a pro! It takes practice. Lots if it

  • We have tried the straw sippy cup and he's gotten a couple sips out of it but gets really frustrated. He likes the Tommee Tippee sippy cup for his water with meals but not so much for his formula. Half of it ends up all over him and he gets frustrated real easily with it. It got to the point where he would cry when he SAW the sippy cup. Since then I have gone back to the bottle for now. DH wanted us to go cold turkey with it but I told him when he feels like getting up at 6 AM and have baby scream bloody murder because he doesn't want a sippy, then he can do it. As suspected, he said we could still use the bottle for a bit.

It just seemed like this combined with taking away his binky was too much on the guy and wasn't fair to him

  • What if you were to help her drink from a regular cup? I dothat with DS sometimes, since he hasn't really been sure of sippy cups!

  • DS just figured out how to chew on his to get the liquid out last week. He still makes a BIG mess every time and can't figure out how to lean just his head back to get the water without falling over backwards.

We tried two different kinds so far and just kept offering them. I repeatedly would show him where to place his hands and helped tip it back.

No worries, she will eventually get it!
