Returning to work - Morning Routine

What time will you get up and what time will you leave the house?

I think I will wake up at 5am (ugh) to leave the house by 7:20am.

Good thing DD gets up now at about 5am (and goes back to sleep) so the schedule should work.

In order to feed/pump, get myself ready, get DD ready, take care of the dogs, get the diaper bag ready, get my pump bag ready, feed again, and leave time for the unexpected. DH will be here to help me as well but it's more all stuff for me (besides the dogs). This schedule will hopefully change to 5:30am eventually but I need to see how it goes. What will your mornings look like (or what do they look like) returning to work? How much time will you need? I'm hoping 2.5 hours is more than enough and it can go down to 2 hours once we get it working.

Re: Returning to work - Morning Routine

  • I have been worrying about the morning routine. I go back to work the 13th. I work a varied schedule, but there are two mornings a week I need to get a routine down. I will have to leave the house around 7:15, so I should get up around 5:00-5:30. Phew that seems so early now. Before I had LO I would wake up 30 minutes before I had to leave, so this is going to be an adjustment.

If you find a plan that works let me know!

  • I live around the corner from my job and usually start between 8-9, so I'll probably get up when DS does (he tends to wake up initially around 5:30 right now)...so i can feed him and spend a little snuggle time before I leave the house. DH is watching LO during the day for now, so I have a little more time to figure out logistics before we have to either take him to my mom's house or to daycare...

  • When I had my 1st DD, I got up about an hour earlier than normal. I got everything ready and often took a shower the night before. She was a horrible sleeper and often woke up after I left didnt want to wale her if i didnt have to so I would pump in the morning. I got an extra set of pump parts so I didn't have to wash them after the morning pump session. It took awhile but we got our routine down. Luckily DH is here most mornings that I work so he will get them off to daycare the 2 days they go. I don't know how I would get 2 out the door by 7!

  • I get up at 5am and leave at 6:15am. I feed her once, pump once and shower. My husband doesn't leave for work until 9am so he takes care of her when I leave. I try to take care of as much stuff the night before as possible, like lay out mine and the baby's clothes, make sure I have enough milk in the fridge, etc.

  • I get up at 4am and ideally need to be out of the house by 6:15 to get her dropped off at daycare and get to work by 7:15. It really takes forever. I get her fed and dressed, get myself ready, dh usually feeds her again right before we leave and then get her put into the carseat and get out the door.

  • I take about 2 hours, but I prep my lunch, lay out DS's outfit, and get the coffee maker ready the night before.  I've been late to work once thus far (but only 10 minutes) as DS wanted a bottle NOW at 8am and wouldn't wait for daycare.  I usually get up around 6 when DS wants his early morning bottle.  He goes back to sleep.  I tried that, but not only did I just lay there, but when I did get up, I raced around like a madman.  I don't go to work until 9, and that has been the lifesaver for me.  Good luck!

  • I'll get up at 5 and leave by 6:45, hopefully closer to 6:30. Unfortunately my husband is up and put much earlier so baby and dogs are all on me. I will have everything ready to go the night before so I'll just be grabbing bags and LO and running out the door.

  • LO is taking 40-50 minutes to BF at each feeding, I was already getting up at 5:45 am to leave at 6:30 (taking a shower the night before usually).  I have a long commute and I am already worried about being drowsy.  Right now I think I will be pumping in the morning and having DH give LO a bottle when he wakes up.  I can usually pump in about 15 minutes so I'm guessing I will be getting up at least 1/2 hour earlier to accomplish this.  DH doesn't have to leave for work until about 8:30, but he is usually up when I leave.  He will probably be the one getting LO ready each morning and he will be the one dropping him off at daycare.

  • Oh yes, I meant to say that I will pick out my clothes, get the diaper bag and pump bag ready before bed.
