crib sheets?

Do any STM's have a recommendation for which brand/type of crib sheets they liked the best?

Has anyone tried the zipper base where you zip on a new sheet? Is it any easier than just changing a regular sheet?

And finally, I'm planning on laying pad, sheet, pad, sheet, pad sheet so that in the middle of the night I could just pull off the top layer and have clean sheets underneath. I read that on a blog somewhere. Has anyone done that and did it work well?

I have no idea why I am obsessed with crib sheets tonight, but it is clearly all I'm going to think about for the rest of the weekend.

I think they are pretty standard for the most part. I have not used the zipper ones, but I would suggest having lots on hand I have not used the pad, would you lay it between the sheets? It doesn't take to long to change a sheet and I feel like it may just be one more thing to wash. It may work great though. Good Luck

On a side note, if you pick a quality diaper, especially at night, I don't think you will have t worry too much. Once in awhile, DD would wet through but never more than her PJs. Sheets stayed pretty dry.

We did the sheet/mattress protector layering thing. It did work well because our LO had acid reflux and puked up about half of what he ate. I hated changing sheets too because I'm so short and those mattresses fit so snuggly into the bed frame. I found I like cotton sheets the best. We only used our crib for naps though and after he was about four months old, so I'm not the best reference. He mostly coslept with us in our bed or next to us in the pack 'n play.

I put a waterproof mattress cover on and a regular sheet on top. When DS was younger, I put a pad on top of the sheet, but once he stopped spitting up, its not necessary anymore.

DS's crib sheets came from Target. I only bought 2 and that has worked, but I've often wished I had more. When he was healing from his circumcision, he leaked out of his diaper all the time because of the ointment we had to put on him. I would put down a small waterproof pad and a blanket on top of that. He wasn't rolling over so it was fine for the first 2 weeks.

We have the Gerber knit sheets. I think they are soft and they didn't really shrink up at all.

I JUST just read about this in the Baby Bargains book.

First, they say the fitted sheet should have all around elastic instead of just at the corners. They recommend Baby Gap fitted sheets, Cotton Tale, and Amy Coe. They say 200 thread count is best.

Under the heading No Soft Bedding in the Crib they also say:

"We know that some parents figure it is easier to change crib sheets at 2 am if they simply pile on several layers of sheets on the crib mattress. While we admire the creative thinking, we suggest NOT doing this. One sheet over a waterproof liner is enough.Or use an Ultimate Crib Sheet over your sheet--you won't need an additional liner since the Ultimate Crib Sheet is waterproof (this is a sheet with a waterproof center that goes over the fitted sheet and connects to the crib rather than around the mattress.) The take home message: any more than TWO layers on top of a mattress is dangerous."

We have the Target brand sheets and they work great for us. For the longest time I only had two of them and it was never an issue. I now have 3 only because I picked up on clearance for like 3 when shopping one day.

I have never had to do a middle of the night sheet change. Maybe I'm just really lucky.

We have the pottery barn chamois sheets and I swear DD started sleeping better when we got them. They do not have elastic all the way around like baby bargains suggests, but they still fit extremely tight and haven't been a problem.

Yes I think technically layering sheets increases your SIDS risk. I would suggest getting a foam mattress. They are super light and make changing sheets a lot easier. Still semi tough because the mattress fits so snugly, but I had a tough time lifting a regular mattress. The foam ones are great. We have whatever organic one is suggested in baby bargains.

I got two flannel sheets and I've never had an issue with leaking (I use Earth's Best disposables at night). They fit the mattress nicely, and having white makes them super easy to clean. I didn't get any bumpers, or frilly things, just the sheets. I trade them out and wash them when I need to.

I bought the regular crib sheets and used them at first with DD but was then given zippered sheets and they are sooooooo much easier. I have only used the regular crib sheets once since and that was when DD had the stomach flu. I am going to be buy more for this LO. These are the ones we have:

My favorite by far are the Carter's jersey crib sheets. Super soft, tight fit, didn't shrink. LOVE THEM.

We used just one waterproof pad and a sheet on top. No multiple layers. Like other PPs have mentioned, I had read that too many layers like that was a SIDS risk.
