Where is your LO sleeping? Your room vs. nursery?

So my DD is now 2 months old and she's been sleeping in the rock n play right next to my side of the bed. I'm just wondering when I should try getting her to sleep in the nursery (it's across the house but our house isn't huge so really not that far). Should I try having her sleep in her crib or put her in the rock n play in her room?

She normally falls asleep around 9 or 10 wakes up at 2 or 3 then again at 5 or 6. Today and yesterday she slept from 9pm-3am then 3:30 am til 7 am!! I'm just curious as to where everyone's LOs are sleeping.

Also, I rarely have her in a room separate from where I am and I'm wondering if it'd make it easier for me to leave her at her daycare if I start "separating" myself from her at night. Plus it makes "sexy time" awkward when she's in her rock n play right next to the bed...

  • He's with us in his RnP for now.  Our room is on side of the house and the rest are on the other (its a reaaaalllly long ranch style) so I feel bad putting him so far away from us right now.  Once he's STTN I'll probably move him down there.

  • Is there a reason you want him to sleep in the nursery? He is so little, let him sleep in your room and enjoy these moments! I will switch him to his own room when he is STTN and I do not have to change multiple diapers and do multiple feedings every night.

  • NURSERY!! Since day one (well day 4 lol). Im very very against children sleeping in their parents rooms with exception of sickies or snuggle time.

  • We just transferred DD to the crib on the nursery on Friday. Last night, on her second night in there, she sttn for the first time, so I'm thinking her bassinet may have been uncomfortable for her.

  • My DD just turned 6 weeks on Thursday, and has been sleeping 8 hours through the night for two weeks.  She moves a lot in her bassinet and puts her face right at the edge and it freaks me out, so we put here in her crib starting Friday.  She loves it just as much as her bassinet.  You don't want to wait too long, or they will start to know that you're not close to them, and it will be hard to make that transition.
  • He's sleeping in a bassinet in his room. He's such a noisy sleeper that after 3 weeks I had to move him into his room because I wasn't getting any sleep with all his little noises keeping me awake.

The crib still needs to be adjusted from my older son being in there. So whenever DH gets around to moving the mattress back up we will try to start putting him in the crib.

  • Our LP has been sleeping in her crib in the nursery for a couple of weeks now.  Haven't had any problems.

If you want to get them use to their own room, have them take naps in it during the day.

  • Our little girl sleeps in a bassinet in our room. We decided to try and make the transition to her crib at three months. We've started letting her take naps in it now just to get her used to it. At three months we can begin letting her CIO so we thought that would be a good time to make the transition

  • OP, we had the same sleeping situation, with DD in the RNP next to our bed. We would have kept her in our room for longer, but she made a lot of noise in her sleep and it kept us awake. Now she sleeps in the RNP in the nursery as a "first step" before going into her crib. It's worked great for us so far and she takes her naps in there too. The second night we put her in her nursery, she STTN. I think she was sick of us, too. LOL
  • LO has been in the nursery since he was one week old. He is very noisy in his sleep, and we were exhausted. We discussed it with the pedi, and he recommended moving him to the nursery. All three of us sleep so much better now.

  • We tried putting LO in her crib Friday night. It didn't go well. We had started trying out some formula that day/evening and I think it upset her stomach and she had gas all night. I don't really think the crib was the issue. We'll try again once the feeding issues are resolved. For now, she remains next to our bed in the RnP.

  • LO slept in his nursery in his crib from day 1. He is kind of on the same schedule as your LO. He goes down around 8:30 then wakes at about 3:30 to eat then goes back down until 7. I have a monitor in his room and sleep with the monitor right next to me on my night stand. A monitor is a must, I think. My LO is 7 weeks. Good luck!
  • haha DH has actually turned the RNP's to face the other way during "sexy time".  LOL!

Our Lo's sleep next to the bed in the RNP's.

In another post I mentioned that our girl has some scary spitting up episodes, so we don't feel comfortable moving them yet.

  • He's been in his nursery in the crib since the night he came home...it's literally next door to our room and very close, so I didn't see the point of having to make a transition later. We have a video monitor though, which I think is essential even being so close...so I can look to see if he's actually awake or just chirping and moving in his sleep

  • When DD2 was 1.5 weeks old, we moved her to her nursery, but she's sleeping in her RnP for now, not the crib.  The kids' rooms are only about 10 steps away from ours, so it's no big deal to just use the monitor and walk over there when it's time.

She's a loud sleeper (as was DD1, who went into her nursery at 4 weeks old), and so we all get so much more sleep this way. For instance, we were out of town the other night and had to have DD2 in the room with us. I never got into a deep sleep because I was hyper aware of her constant grunting and squirming (even though she was out cold). Also, I probably got her up and fed her prematurely because I never waited for her to cry; I just tended to her as soon as her noisiness started to ramp up.  So we probably both would have gotten longer sleep if we'd been in separate rooms.

  • He sleeps in a co sleeper by our bed. Not sure when we will transition to nursery, but probably when STTN because his room is upstairs and we are downstairs. I do probably need to start him getting used to his crib during naps though.

  • DD has been sleeping in her bouncy chair in her pack n' play she refuses to sleep flat in the nursery. But the nursery is directly next to our room and we use a monitor. She wasnt sleeping well in our room bc of the AC but she sleeps from about 12:306 or 7 am in the nursey.
