How would you pronounce.......

I'm more of a lurker than a poster, I've been lurking though most of my pregnancy and have gleaned some valuble insight.  Now I need your opinions.

Soren, are you familiar with it?  If not, if you only saw it written how would you pronounce it?  If you are familiar with it how do you pronounce it?

We like it however I am concerned there will always be pronounciation issues.

SORE-in. I know a few Sorens and they all pronounce it the same. Great name, I can't imagine too many people will have trouble with it.

Yes, I'm familiar with the name.  I've heard it pronounced SIR-ehn and SOR-ehn both.  I believe SIR-ehn (or something close to that) is the original pronunciation, but that might be because of the accent mark.

The name is on my long list.

Well, I've seen it before. I'd pronounce it SOR-ehn, just like it looks. Is that not correct?

    I'd also assume it's a boy's name.

Not reading other responses.  I would say it like Soar-in.  Like a bird soaring in the sky.

I sorta have a family member with this name (cousin's wife's sister has twins Elijah and Soren, and daughter Georgia) and that's how they pronounce it. I like it.

Love this name! It was at the top of my list for boy's names but we decided on a different one. I've met a couple Soren's before too. Definitely only think of it has a boy's name and I don't see how it could be mispronounced..

    SORE-in

I've heard it before but the most recent time was in the Legend's of the Guardian's movie. The main owl was named Soren.

Thanks everyone.  You have confirmed my position to SO!

It is 100% boy......  I can't see it as a girl name.  But it is not pronounced Soar - in.  I totally understand how it appears it should be pronounced that way, especially Americanized.

Soren - the "or" sound more like "world" or "word" not like "or" or "sore". The "en" sound is "un"

This is my problem, I know once introduced it will be fine but the poor boy will forever have is name mispronounced as people will read it phonetically, which I totally understand.  This is the problem with non American names haha
