My daughter's name is Alyssa. While some might think it's dated, we love it and it fits her perfectly - she usually goes by Aly. I would prefer a dated name to a trendy name, and it's apparantly still pretty popular, but not too popular.

But to each their own, right?
My name is Alison (I go by Ali), but I really like the name Alyssa. All these old lady names are coming back and those are extremely dated, so I don't think there is anything wrong with Alyssa!
My H and I would have considered Alyssa nn Allie if DS had been a girl. Alyssa might be past its prime but it's not dated to me the way Ashley or Jennifer is.
One of my best friends name is Alyssa and she never goes by Aly, she is Lys or Lyssa. I also knew two girls in high school named Alyssa and neither's NN was Aly. If you are looking for the NN Alli, definitely go with Allison.
Re: Alyssa or Allison?
I think it's more classic and elegant. Alyssa sounds a bit dated to me.

Exactly my thoughts.
Allison x100.
I love Allison and really don't like Alyssa.

I'm in love with names that end in vowels over names that end in consonants... they just sound more feminine and pretty to me.
That said, Alyssa is dated, along with Melissa and Marissa, while Allison remains a nice, timeless, classic name.
