Bamboo rayon/viscose - bamboobsies

I've read so many bad things about bamboo rayon/viscose that I've been trying to avoid it. I noticed in a PP many of you are using bamboobsies breast pads which are made of bamboo rayon. Is avoiding bamboo rayon/viscose not as important as I thought?

TIA for helping me understand! I'm currently in the process of choosing breast pads too.

  • I would love to heard about the bad things of the bamboo I try to google but I couldn't find anything anyway, respect to your question there are different kind of pads that you can choose from wool, silk, cotton the wool and silk  are more expensive than the cotton.

  • So I may not hit the nail on the head, but I'm going to give this rayon/viscose situation a swing... basically, when you have 100% bamboo fabric, it has to be processed in such a way that it doesn't fall apart. Bamboo by itself is a rather weak, fluffy material. Many companies will blend bamboo with cotton, this strengthens the bamboo while softening the cotton - a total win-win! When you only have bamboo fibers though, they have to be sent through a process that will strengthen them in rather unnatural ways. Rayon and viscose have often been put through a chemical process or intense heat. The side effects of this are that the fabric tends to deteriorate more quickly than cotton and it also causes it to not be very breathable.

I looked at the Bamboobsies and I don't think you will have an issue with the things I mentioned. They blend most of their bamboo with organic cotton - yay! They actually look like really great breast pads... I got stuck with some not so great ones with #1, so I will definitely add these to the list of things to get for #2!

  • I am anxiously waiting for mine

I actually called bamboobsies on Monday and asked them if it was bamboo rayon and they said yes and that they weren't technically allowed to call it bamboo.  =/

this post brings up quite a few points - be sure to read the comments too: https://craftingagreenworld.com/2009/03/24/fab-fabrics-the-pros-and-cons-of-bamboo/  Wikipedia also has a lot of info on the manufacturing process of it.
