The people who live behind us are constantly yelling at their dog. They are so mean. They are never nice to him- at least I never hear it. I know it's normal to talk stern and maybe occasionally yell at a dog, if they did something bad, but they take it to a whole new level. And they yell stupid stuff- they are always telling him to lay down, when he is outside. Or they will tell him to get up, and go somewhere else, always yelling... I hear them every day, usually every time I step outside.
Today, I went out and heard the guy yelling at him, telling him to lay down, saying "You can't do anything right!" (seriously? this is a dog...) and then complaining that he pooped outside, (where else is he supposed to go?) then yelling at him to lay down again, and then I heard him hit the dog.
I can't continue to listen to this! Even if this was not considered animal abuse, it is disruptive to hear them yelling constantly.
So, what do you recommend I do? What would you do?
Re: Should/Can I report this? Dog owner
I'm curious if the constant yelling is enough to be able to report.
Eh....the dog is probably biting them because of the way they treat it. It feels like it needs to defend itself. Not all dogs make huge noises when hit...sometimes it is more like a whimper sound.
I once had a picture until the trolls showed up.

"If we weren't all crazy we would go insane."
I understand why you think the dog may be being abused, I think you are jumping the gun a little.
If you haven't actually seen anything, you don't have a reason to call the cops.
Do you have a dog?
I yell at my dogs ALL THE TIME. They bark, get in the trash, jump on the couch, get in the compost, and charge the door whenever it opens. They are trained and know not to do these things, they are just a$$holes.
When the one dog needs a bath, I have to DRAG him to the bathtub. He hates baths. He literally goes limp and makes me carry or drag him. When I take his collar to lead him to the tub, he yelps. I dunno why. He yelps. I am not hitting him. I don't get skin with his collar. He just doesn't like baths.
If anyone called animal control on me, I would be pissed off. Police don't handle that stuff where I am, unless there is a dangerous dog at large. In my town, filing with animal control is not anonymous.
hmm I don't know. I mean the dog lover in me says - ASsh0les absolutely call the police on them. However it's hard to say without having the full story. If you see them hit the dog then yes, call them. Just yelling? I mean I guess you could call them for noisy neighbours but I don't think yelling at your dog is animal cruelty.
The dog doesn't know you just called him a dumb piece of sh!t lol. However I do feel like if you are constantly yelling at the dog and angry, they do sense that. But some dogs need firmer control. I'd rather they yell at him, than find him running around loose in danger of getting hit by a car or whatever. It does seem a bit weird to yell at him for pooping outside.. I mean, that's where a "good" dog poops!!
I love my dog and he's very well behaved. But yes, he's 110lbs and I do sometimes have to yell at him when he gets overly excited with visitors etc. And I yell at my cat a lot becuase he's a pain in the ass and keeps knocking stuff off the counters and stealing my pump parts and taking them to the basement to play with. Fvking cat. lol
