I went for monitoring today, cycle day 12. I have great looking follies but my lining is only 5.8. My RE prescribed vaginal estrace and triggered me in the office. But he cancelled our IUI because of the lining. We are dealing with MFI so I feel like without the IUI this cycle is a total loss. Is there any chance that my lining will thicken up over the next 36 hours?
Just a side note... we may have been cancelled anyway because there is a tropical storm/hurricane headed straight for us here in New Orleans and the RE's office will be closed for the next 2-3 days.
Re: How quickly can lining thicken?
Almost the exact same thing happened to us our last IUI cycle. Had a lining of 5.7mm, I was prescribed Estrace on CD12, triggered that night and had the IUI the next morning. My RE told me that the Estrace should thicken the lining up after about 24-36 hours of taking it, not sure by how much, but it will start to work by then. And really, the lining means the most when implantation is going to take place, which if the egg is fertilized takes anywhere from an average of 6-12 days after fertilization. So I think you should be fine in terms of the lining (if you continue to take Estrace until pregnancy is confirmed or not via your beta) by the time implantation could occur.
I'm surprised my RE went ahead with the IUI since my lining was so thin, but he seemed confident the Estrace would thicken it up enough and we went ahead with it (although this cycle was a bust). I'm sorry your IUI got cancelled.
Stay safe in Nola, hopefully Isaac doesn't wreak too much havoc.
GL with this cycle, FX for you!
Hope you guys have a good plan to stay safe!!!
My lining was 6.6 on CD 14 and then on CD 16 it was 10, so it can happen. I didn't use Estrace, but just wanted to let you know that it can thicken up quickly. The only thing I did in between was taking some Evening Primrose oil (I only had 3 capsules left though so that's all I took) and drank a ton of water. Not sure if any of that actually did anything.
GL with whatever happens!
After 2 years of IF workups/treatments and 2 IUIs, we have closed the door on fertility treatments.
We are very excited to be pursuing international adoption from China!
6000 miles and a day
Wishing you luck, and stay safe!
