Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Do you wake LO from naps?

LO will sometimes nap for up to 2 hours in the morning if I let her but then the afternoon nap seems to be shorter.  I'm thinking I should wake her after an hour or maybe hour and a half (at the most) in the morning so she will take a longer afternoon nap.  Do you wake your LO from a nap in order to maintain a consistent sleep schedule?  We will also wake her from an afternoon nap if it is taken later in order to keep a consistent bed time.

Re: Do you wake LO from naps?

  • I woke up DD1 yesterday because she had been asleep for 2.5 hours, it was almost time to eat, and DD2 had only taken a 1.5 hour nap.  Normally they take one long nap and one short nap but they switch up which is in the morning and which is in the afternoon each day.  I only wake them if we have to go somewhere or if they're sleeping for 2.5 hours or more.  But we're very go with the flow - we both work so if they end up later up night we don't mind because then we get more time with them.  We figure that some days we're sleepier then others so it's the same for the babies.  As long as they get a good amount of total sleep each day we don't really worry about when they get it.

  • No, unless I need to go somewhere. I think trying to control it by waking them can screw things up. If my LO is tired, I let her sleep. If she sleeps till 5:30PM some days, she still goes to bed at 7:30 or 8.  I never woke my first DD either.

This. If DS is sleeping, it is because he's tired. I'm not going to wake him up just because I think he should be awake.

  • Never. Unless we are leaving and I need to get her changed and dressed. If she is already dressed I just put her in careseat and go.

    This.

Well, I wouldn't wake LO because I think she should be awake.  I was thinking to do it in order to maintain her bedtime because it seems like she wakes earlier in the morning the later she goes to sleep for the night.

  • No way! They are still little babies and babies need sleep. I don't even wake my 2 year old. I figure if they are sleeping, they need te sleep.

  • I don't.  If she's tired, then I figure she needs the sleep.  And waking them never seems  to make the afternoon nap work out the way you want it to anyway...
