We are trying to avoid crowds and masses of people in closed spaces until 4-6 weeks but what do people think about a quick trip to Target or Trader Joes with a 1-week old?
We were out and about within the first week. Mama needed to get out of the house! As long as you keep baby secure and don't let anyone touch or hold I don't see a problem.
LO will be one week old tomorrow, and I am already trying to plan a way to get out of the house! I would just put her in a front pack and not let strangers touch her, which they won't try to if she is attached to you. Good luck on your venture!
we've made a few quick trips over the past couple of weeks. no issues here. although he did cry a bit more than we thought because he doesn't like his car seat. other than that...

I waited until this week at 3 weeks log but really I don't feel like there is much of a difference. We covered her infant seat with a blankie to keep people sneezing and coughing germs away. Nobody tried to touch her and if they did I would have said something. Or you could do a carrier so that baby is close to you.

Agreed!

We were out a few days after we were home from the hospital. This mama needed to GET OUT! Just be sure no one touches the baby. I've found people have been respectful and even asked to "take a peek" which I found funny...we were at the park with DS and they could easily have walked around to look without asking, but I liked that they asked. Much more personable!
I took DS to an outdoor wedding ceremony when he was a week old. It was beautiful out and he loved the warmth! I say go for it, we take DS to the store all of the time. Just keep him close and don't let random people get too close to him while they peek in to look (mostly older people ask to do this...I usually position myself inbetween him and them, to keep them at a distance).
We have been to Target, Walmart, Dr's appts, LC appts and a ginormous hospital to get a rental pump (my hospital was out) all in the first week. I wear him in the Moby whenever we go out. We are headed to Target again in a bit. I put the Moby on at home, but I have had to do it in a parking lot. It only takes a minute.
The wearing serves many purposes: No one can breath on him but me, he doesn't cry, the car seat it too heavy for me to carry (and I am not allowed to carry anything bigger than the baby for a few more weeks), and there is no "do I put him in the car before I load the groceries/ what do I do with the cart now since I can't just leave the baby in the car?" dilemma.
