Warning, this is very rambly!
DD was born at 8 lbs 0 oz and 20.5" tall. She'll be 8 weeks on Tuesday, and is FINALLY about to hit 9 pounds. I think. Everywhere we go, people ask me if she was a preemie. She made it to 40+5, actually, thanks.
(She went down to 7 lb 2 oz initially, then gained a lot back, then lost it all again when I had laryngitis and strep at 3 wks.) We've had several weight checks at the pediatrician because I was concerned about it. I'm supplementing BF with quite a bit of formula. She IS getting a lot longer - I think she's nearly 23"!!! Her 3 month onesies are tight in the crotch because she's so tall, yet I still have her in preemie pants! lol! She's a fashion nightmare.
The kid never stops moving, cooing, flailing, and trying to talk - she must have the metabolism of a racehorse and multiple people have told me that she's the most alert baby they've ever seen. She's so friggin happy and hardly ever cries. She'll sleep hours at a time and then wake up and drink from both boobs plus take a 4 oz bottle in one feeding on some days, and be incredibly awake and demand food every hour on others. And yes I have a pretty good supply - I pump between 1.5 and 3 oz every time. She has been putting weight on her feet since 1 week and now tries to stand when you put her in a seated position.
Developmentally I think she's a rockstar. But she's a skinny little squirt. Anyone else with a super skinny baby?
And if one more person comes up to me in public and asks if she was a preemie, I'm going to bop them. Some random dude asked me that at the mall a couple of days ago, and without missing a beat I told him that we were very grateful that she was long and lean, because we were counting on her becoming a fashion model to help pay the mortgage. Wabam!!
Re: Anyone else's baby horizontally challenged??
At 4.5 yrs old - DD is a whopping 34 lbs (fully dressed). She gained about a pound a month her first year - born at 6lbs12oz - she was about 18 lbs at 1 yr. She's always been small but proportionate. Her hair is shiny, she has a round belly, she doesn't look unhealthy. My response typically is, she'll be average height to tall and thin, what girl wouldn't want that?
Also having a smaller baby was much easier on my back - carrying her around, even now isn't difficult.
