diastasis recti

Any other moms get this?

I had never even heard of it until after my boys were born.  I was doing ab exercises, felt my stomach and sure enough... my abs were seperated! Very strange feeling. I bought the tupler technique stuff but have not been very committed to doing the exercises. Are there any success stories of recovery? Anyone get the surgery?

Re: diastasis recti

  • DW has/had it pretty bad - six fingers' width of space between her ab muscles. She goes to a physical therapist who specializes in treating it. Her appointments are just once every three weeks, and they check her and give her a new set of daily exercises to do. She's only on her second appointment today and has already seen significant improvement and feels better and her stomach is quite a bit smaller.

  • Wow thank you! Good to know. Did not know PT could help with that.

    Thank you!

  • I have a 5" separation. I've done Tupler, I've done transabdominal exercises, I've worn splints/braces. Nothing helps. I was told my only option for correcting the issue is surgery, which I am planning on getting once I'm done being pregnant. We don't have a ton of family support so I'll probably wait a bit until the kids are all a bit more independent so that it's not so hard on our family.
