My birth center is about 25 miles from our place which takes about 30 minutes without traffic, and maybe an hour in bad traffic. Like PP, it's closer to my work, where I will likely be driving to my appointments from.
I have to deliver at a specific hospital per my insurance. Honestly, if I didn't have this insurance, I wouldn't have even thought to deliver there, but they do have a level 3 NICU and, from what I've read, a great maternity ward.
The hospital is about 15 minutes from my house. The hospital I originally wanted to deliver, where I delivered DS, is a good 30 minutes or so.
How far is the hospital that you're thinking of switching to? If something were to go wrong, or happen very quickly where you didn't think you'd get to the hospital in time, you could always be transported by ambulance. Not the most ideal situation, and I don't know about your area, but paramedics have a OB/GYN rotation and are trained on how to handle situations, even high risk situations.
I'm having a home birth, but the hospital closest to me that I would transfer to in an emergency is 3 miles from my house. In a non emergency (breech baby, etc) my MW would transfer me to her hospital which is an hour away plus with traffic.

With DD we were 45 mins away (highway). We lived in a small town with crappy medical care so we drove to a better hospital. That's where my dr was too.
With this one, we've since moved to a major city and are less than 15 mins away.

When it comes to my children I have always been extremely cautious especially at the hospital when they are born. The moment they wheel the baby away, my DH follows until they bring baby back to me...I never return baby to the nursery, the baby remains with me until d/c and if the baby needs to be taken away for any testing, my DH follows. I've heard and read of too many horrific incidents and don't take chances.
sorry! Posted under the wrong post...don't know what's wrong with the board lately.
Mine is probably around 45 min away. I'm lucky in that my husband is a paramedic, so if something happens on the way to the hospital or even before that, he knows what to do. He has delivered countless babies.
I live in the Washington DC area so there are many excellent hospitals within 40 minutes. However, this is a January baby that could come in the middle of a blizzard so we picked the hospital closest to us that is only 15 mins away.

I'm not sure of the mileage, but it's about 40 mins without traffic. I would've preferred something closer to home, but for some reason eventhough my OB's have a practice only 15 mins away from me (and near another hospital) they only deliver at the hospital that is 40 mins away.

Less than 5 miles and less than 10 minutes... There's another one the exact same distance the other direction that I'd go to if I had any problems with PTL because their NICU level is higher, but I'm of course hoping that doesn't become a concern.
18 miles and 30 minutes, without traffic. We moved across town after our first was born, but I love my OB so we drove across town last pregnancy and are doing the same this pregnancy.
If I have a natural birth the hospital is 3.2 miles/9 min. If it is a scheduled c-section my dr. wants me to go to another hospital and that is 6.7 miles/16 min.
I'm about 25 mile away from the hospital. I have 3 other hospitals closer to me. I choose to go to the furthest hospital because it has a neonatal intensive care unit and they're a bigger hospital and I feel they would be more able to handle me in case something happened. (I have a pretty sever back condition.) It'll take about 45 mins to get there.
And all of this could change, because we are moving in October and we don't know where we're going yet. My husband got a job with the state police and it could be anywhere in the state of MI. So who knows!!

35 minutes away. I am getting induced on Friday and have to go in Thursday and now I am wishing it was closer because its going to be a long drive for my husband back and forth to take care of our dogs.
Not sure how far milage wise but it takes 20min door to door. I love my hospital, I gave birth to DD there and I'm looking forward to going there for this one too!
I work beside my hospital, and it is about 20 minutes from home. I was going to use a different hospital, but I am afraid too, my OB thinks my labor with go quickly, with how much I dilated prelabor. I was to go to the hospital when contractions were 10 minutes apart with DD.
We haven?t decided on where the RCS will be. There are 3 hospitals to chose from and the furthest away is 15mins drive.
With DS we chose the closest family orientated hospital and it was 10 minutes drive away.
The hospital where I have all my appointments is just down the hill from our appartment less that 5mins walk away.
Everything is close by here as its such a small island. DH?s "commute" to work is 20 mins. We get itchy feet if we are in the car longer than 30 mins at a time

Well, my hospital is about 2-2.5 hours from my house...or 180ish miles. From my work it's about 110ish miles or 1.5 hours. Its a commute :-)
I have to deliver at a specific hospital per my insurance. Honestly, if I didn't have this insurance, I wouldn't have even thought to deliver there, but they do have a level 3 NICU and, from what I've read, a great maternity ward.

with your hospital being so far what are your plans when labor starts? or will the drive not be a factor?
From home, it's about 25 miles away, 45ish minutes (with no traffic). From work it's just a few miles and 10 minutes away.
There is a hospital closer to where I live, but it's smaller and not where my doctor is.

Probably less than 3 miles. Actually, you can see the lights for the helicopter landing pad from our house.
The hospital we delivered DS at was just over 30 minutes away. More if there was traffic. That was no biggie.
Mine is <10 minutes including parking, probably 5 if my husband drops me off at the door. It's very close.

My hospital is 10 miles from home, 5 miles from work and 15 miles from DH's work.
As far as time goes it wouldn't take more than 15 minutes to get there.
