Re: GTKY poll (get to know you)

  • 1. What do you do for a living?  DH? I am an IT Customer Manager and DH is a SAP Basis Administrator if any of you know what that means.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it? Suburban, yes I like it a lot.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part? I live in a 2-story home which I love.  It's pretty much our dream home.  The only thing I would change is possibly the location so DH and I have shorter commutes.

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change? I love our ability to travel, but I am ready to give some of that up for a baby!

  • 1. What do you do for a living?  DH? I am a nursing unit coordinator at a large hospital downtown and DH is the supervisor of a sterile processing department in surgery at another local area hospital.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it? We live in a suburb that borders a very rural area. We can look out across the county road and see farms, but I can be to Target in under 5 minutes. I think in the future we'd like to move farther out and have more land in this same area, but still be close enough to all that we'd need.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part? We own a townhome. It has served its purpose for the two of us these past 5 years, and will be fine with a baby, but we'd like to move to a house that doesn't share walls and we can have our own yard once our child gets placed with us. Right now it's nice because we don't have to do any yard work and it's relatively newer so we haven't had do much updating.

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change? I like that DH and I have finally settled into a groove after several years of career changes and job changes. We finally have more time to spend together and are moving forward, obviously, with building our family. I'd love to have my family closer. My parents and sister live in FL and we're in MN and the rest of my extended family is in other areas of the country. As we proceed in this adoption process, it sure would be nice to have more family close by. I believe my parents are trying to move back to retire sometime next spring.

  • 1.  I am a SAHM right now, but I'm also an art teacher.  DH is a pricing analyst.  (We are very very different in what we do for a living.  He always says, "No one gives me drawings they made for me at my work."  :)  Working with kids is definitely a great thing.

    2.  Suburban.  Yes and no.  I like our area, but I wish we lived in a newer home that needed less work (We've been housepainting off and on all summer.)  We live in the midwest now, but I miss the east coast.  (Hmm...maybe I can convince my family to move back out East?!?)

    3.  A ranch.  Best part - It's very "warm" and sunny in our living room - we painted it a pretty soft yellow.  And we have a really nice big backyard.  Worst part - It needs work (see #2!) and we don't have a basement.

    4.  Having this time home with Zoe.  I'd like to know that I could be home with her for a couple more years and then go back to teaching -- to know that it will all work out that way.  It's hard...a lot of teaching jobs, particularly specials jobs, have been cut in the schools in my state :(

    1. What do you do for a living? SAHM  DH? Biomedical Engineer

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it? Suburban. Yes, we love it. I know some people hate the suburbs, but I think we were designed for it.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part? We live in a 3 bedroom house that looks a lot like the others in our neighborhood. The best part is the miles of walking trails, multiple pools, tennis courts and playgrounds. The worst part is having a small back yard (that's CA for you)

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change?  I love nearly everything about our lifestyle right now. We are so blessed! I wish we had family closer, though.

  • 1. What do you do for a living?  DH?
Me -- own my own creative studio; DH -- web & digital media for a nonprofit + works for our studio in the evenings/weekends

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it?
Suburban... not a huge fan. I grew up in a small city, so I really miss sidewalks, corner grocery stores, and walking to the park. We're hoping to move in 5-7 years, once edu loans and car are paid off.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part?
Single family home (split level). Best part? Hard wood and tile floors. Central AC. Worst part? Disgusting old carpet, tiny closets, very little counter space in the kitchen. Man, this is making me want to move. Ha.

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change?
I love that I can be a work at home mom... but I can't hardly wait until DH can quit his day job so we can work together full time.

Heading to China in November 2014 to bring our son home!

  • 1. SAHM and occasional freelancer. DH is in biotech/pharma

    2. Suburb of a major metro area. Just the way I like it :)

    3. Classic cape with an addition on the back we're using as an in-law suite when family comes. We love the amount of backyard we have and the space. We don't like the weird layout and lack of a garage

    4. I like being home every day and being able to get stuff done around the house. I wish we had more $, for lots of reasons (but who doesn't)

  • 1. What do you do for a living?  DH?  We are both wildlife biologists

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it? Rural area outside a medium size town that has most of the amenities we need.  And the  big cities are only 2 hours away.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part? We live in a 3 bedroom house we built.  Love that we have a couple of acres and we are about 15 minutes to town (pretty much any part of town.) We have a lot of wildlife in our yard, in fact migration of hummingbirds has started and they are swarming our feeders.  Worst- I think the only thing I can think of is the occasional scorpion.  That's the only drawback that I can think of.

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change? We spend a lot of time out side and I really like that.  We will be spending even more time outside over the next few months and I look forward to that peaceful time.  I wish we weren't so budget conscious right now and traveled more.

  • 1.  I'm a Wedding Photographer, my husband works for a private Christian college.

    2. Love our little suburban area!

    3. Just bought a house this year. It was a major fixer upper, but it has been so worth it - I love the project of cleaning it up!

    4. My favorite thing about life is being a mom to my little ones. I wish I could be a better parent, I feel like children are "endless possibilities" and they more you pour into them, the more you see them bloom. Every day should have about 20 more hours it in just so I can enjoy them more!

  • 1. I am a teacher and my husband works in finance.

    2. We live in the heart of a city on the east coast.

    3. We bought a brand new condo 5.5 years ago and have loved every second of living here. The beach, bars, restaurants, and city bike trails are all within walking distance as well as my parents, brothers and niece and nephews all live within 10 minutes of us.  Although we love the city, we are ready for the house in the metropolitan suburbs (no more than 15 minutes out of the city).

    4.  I love the ability to be spontaneous. We decided this afternoon to pack a bag and go away for the weekend.   We love to travel but we are ready to trade it in to be parents.  We have been married for 6 years and are ready to start the next chapter of our life and trade the beach for play dates!

  • 1. I have an in-home daycare and a little jewelry etsy shop on the side. DH is a pastor.

    2. We live in a low-income part of a small city.  I love it because we have all the amenities without any of the "keeping up with the jonses."  On the downside, there are a few empty foreclosed houses in our neighbourhood and dilapidated houses which are just ugly, but for the most part the lived-in homes are taken care of.

    3. 2 story 100 year old home.  Best part: lots of character, hardwood floors.  Worst part: our backyard is too big for us and is super ugly b/c we don't like to or have the time to landscape it.

    4. We have time for each other, time to sit and relax on our front porch and time to enjoy dinner.  DH is often able to come home for lunch.  Like to change: having more time for friends.  Our evenings are often booked with church or adoption stuff and when friends want to hang out it is hard b/c we just want to relax and spend time just the two of us.

    1. What do you do for a living?  DH?

I will be starting grad school in September. I was a restaurant manager for a national chain.  DH is a real estate attorney.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it?

We live an urban area.  I love living in the city since everything is close but eventually we will move just outside of downtown but still close to the city.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part?

Right now a one bedroom apartment but eventually we will buy another house. Best part is location. We rarely drive our car and walk a lot of places. Worst part is being in a one bedroom when you have always been in a two or two + place.  I wish we had a yard (help with potty training our puppy).

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change?

I like that we can get up and go without too much notice. I wish we could save more money.

Pursing Domestic Infant Adoption through a local agency. In the meantime, our dog is our baby.  Bumping from Portland, Oregon.
  • Great poll, Jillian!

    1. What do you do for a living?  DH?

We are both artists -- photography for me, photo, film, and drums for him.  I have a couple jobs, I run our photo studio and work part-time in arts administration.  He is interviewing for a job in photo/video. He plays drums in a couple groups, but the pay is shockingly low.  It still counts, though, because paid gigs are cool to have.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it?

Urban.  Love it.  I don't love the crime, grime, etc., but I could never live in a 'burb or the country.  I get the shakes when I drive out of town to shoot a wedding.  Wink

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part?

Love our 1929 house.  Everything is always falling apart, but I would never be happy in a new house.  We renovated it ourselves and that's my favorite thing.  It is everything I wanted it to be.

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change?

We want kid(s).  And some more financial security.  Otherwise, things are almost perfect.  My favorite thing...  IDK, I guess the flexibility I have with my jobs.

  • 1.  I'm the public relations director at a local not-for-profit organization.  DH is currently a full-time student in biomedical sciences and will graduate in December.

    2.  We live in a small university town and love it.

    3.  We live in a two-story duplex.  The best part is having a lot of space for our family.  The worst part is not being able to do as much as we'd like to in order to make it our home, because we're just renting for now.

    4.  I really love my job.  This may not seem to relate directly to lifestyle, but I've been so much happier since graduating and finding a job I love.  I had a tough time at home with DD in her first few months of life--we lived in a tiny apartment and DH was always at work or school.  She's in a great daycare she loves now, DH left his job to focus and school, and I'm just happy with the way our family dynamic works now.  If I could change one thing, DH would have graduated (he's behind a semester) and would be working full-time now, but that's not a huge deal.

    1. What do you do for a living?  DH?

DH and I both work for our church in college student ministry. He's FT, I'm at 5-15 hours/wk.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it?

Wellll I live about a mile from campus, in the middle of our city. But our city only has about 150k people in it, so it's not like I'm in the middle of a metropolis... And I really like our location, but I'm SO TIRED of our city. I grew up here and moved back to finish college, so I can't go anywhere without seeing someone, and I can't find anything new to do to save my life!

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part?

We live in a little house. It's less than 1 years old but was not made with love and care. I love the space but hate the mortgage - our house has increased in "value" (according to our tax appraiser) by 22% in the last 5 years, so our mortgage has increased at a faster rate than our income. We'll probably have to move sometime soon.

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change?

I love the flexibility of my work - I have responsibilities, but my focus is with the women leaders, so if I need them to meet with each other without me, I know they will. And if I want to take on a special project, I can. I'd really like to be more financially stable - hence the moving. We can't make more $, but we can live somewhere that doesn't cost 40% of our take-home pay.

    1.  I have been in CPG marketing for over 15 years marketing some pretty big brands like Milk Chugs, Kool-Aid, Oreo, BIC and Small Steps. Currently consulting for a baby products company 30 hours/week.   DH is an internet start up junkie, with the most popular company he was a part of was About.com.

    2.  We live in a suburb of NYC, but in a smaller city about 1 mile from the downtown area.  I like being able to walk to the grocery and drug store if we need something little, but everything is within a 5 - 15 minute drive; including the beach, home depot, Costco and a mall.

    3. We bought our house about 2 years ago.  It's a split so it is easy to get "lost" from spouse if necessary.  The house feels much bigger than it's square footage because of the garage and basement.  Just waiting to fill it with kids.  We have room out back for a playset one day and our garden.  Keeping up the yard is a lot of work, but also my main form of exercise.  The worst part of the house is the fence that is falling apart, but this years savings is going toward adoption, so perhaps we will replace it next year.

    4. DH is a recreational pilot so its fun to fly places for the day like Cape Cod, or Martha's vineyard.  Also, not being tied down has been nice, but we always tend to do stuff that will be more fun with kids.  Having a child will be the BIG change we are both looking forward to.

  • 1. What do you do for a living? Restaurant Server DH? Refs football games, starts a class in September.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it? I live in... Texas Urban? I think we fall on the line of Urban and Suburban.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in? Best part about it? Worst part? 2 story, 2 bedroom apartment. The best part is having someone to fix all our problems and maintenance issues for us! Worst part would probably be the traffic and that we can occasionally hear the neighbors.

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change? I love our lifestyle! We aren't rich at all, but we have money for the things we need and some of the things we want. We go to the movies when we want, and we can eat take-out (when we're feeling unhealthy.) Money doesn't make our family. If we could change anything, it might be money though. Only because I feel that if we aren't rich, we will be judged on the foster/adoption scene as "in it for the money."

  •  1. What do you do for a living?  DH?

I work in an ICU & my DH is nurse anesthetist (CRNA) at the same hospital.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it?

Rural (cluster of small cities; 10,000-20,000 each); decent amenities for the overall population of the area. It's ok here; I do miss the lifestyle of living in a city.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part?

We bought our house in December 2011 & I LOVE it. I knew the minute we walked in; everything we were looking for plus an awesome salt water pool. It really is my dream house.

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change?

Favorite parts; continuing to have fun with DH after 10 yrs together, my sweet doggies, my home, starting the foster to adopt process! Things I'd like to change; I need to loose weight & get in shape! And I'd also like to pick up my house & drop it in south Louisiana:)

Foster to adopt process started 8/2012:)
  • 1. What do you do for a living?  DH?
I am an exteacher/tutor, and now a full time SAHM. DH is a chemical engineer.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it?
We live in a small subdivision in a rural area. Our neighborhood is bordered by woods on one side, pasture on two sides and a rice field on the last side. We really like it here. It's very safe and we know everyone.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part?
An Acadian style house. The best part is that we have plenty of room to grow, its well made and I like the design. Worst part is that it was built in the early 90s and never remodeled, so there are some icky things like teal carpet and strange tile colors. We are tackling one room at a time. There are only 3 rooms left to redo, so hopefully we will be able to finish soon.

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change?
I really enjoy being a mom and wife. I love our neighborhood. We have great friends here, lots of kids for LO to play with and the GPs live a block away, and love to help us with LO. I like being able to make my own schedule and pick up and go whenever we want/need. We get to go on business trips with DH often. I like getting to shop, go to the zoo or the movies during the weekdays while the crowds are all at work/school.
I don't know if I would change anything now, accept for adding to our family. Later we would like to build a house on/near our farm and then we would REALLY be out in the middle of nowhere! But for now, I think we will enjoy being in a neighborhood with young kids. I grew up on the farm with no neighbors to play with and it was kind of lonely, so I'm glad our kids will have little friends next door to run around with.

I'm a social worker, DH is a police officer

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it?

Suburbs, looking to move more rural

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part?

We are in a 2 story house, best part: finished basement and deck, worst part: bedrooms upstairs

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change?

Favorite part: most everything, change: sell our house and find our dream home :)

  • 1. What do you do for a living?  DH?

I work at home and I am a spreadsheet nerd. DH: works in IT.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it?

We live in a suburban area. We liked it. DH grew up here.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part?

Single family home. The best part is all of DH's entire family lives within 2 miles of us. Yes, we set boundaries before moving close.

Worst: I like our house it is very nice but I never fell in love with the house. I know it does not make much sense.

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change?

I love that we have the freedom to do whatever. Come and go as we please.

I would just us being more adventurous. We are kind of boring.

  • 1. What do you do for a living?  DH?

I am a registered dietitian, DH is a software engineer.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it?

We live in NYC, but in a very quiet neighborhood with lots of houses around. There are parts of our neighborhood where you would have NO idea you are in a city. DH grew up in this neighborhood so his family is within walking distance. We really love it here. We can walk to stores and restaurants and parks, and also easily get into Manhattan just to spend the day in the city.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part?

We live in a decently-sized apartment. It's open and bright and we love it. We are 9 floors up and there aren't any big buildings too close to us so we have a decent view. As much as I always thought I wanted to have a house before having a baby, we are totally okay with being in an apartment right now. We have plenty of room and we don't have to worry about taking care of the yard or things breaking in our home. I like the idea of not being tied to this building or even area for now since we don't own it, but it's also a lot of money to give away in rent since we don't own it. We would love to have a little yard for our little one to play in, but then again we don't have time to take care of it!

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change?

I'm working per diem right now, and I love it. I'm in the middle of covering a maternity leave for someone so I've been working 50 hours/week and I definitely do not like working this many hours. I plan on being a SAHM when we have our little one so I don't really want a full-time job right now if I have the option to stay on per diem. I would ideally like to work 2-3 days/week so I have time the other days to clean, grocery shop, run errands, visit our Godson, etc. We love having the ability to travel right now but, like pp said, we would be happy to change that if we had a baby!

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part? we live in a 3 BR ranch with a big yard.  I like our house itself and yard.  I wish the location was better and we had a little more space.

    1. What do you do for a living?  DH?

I love my job  and it offers decent flexibility :)  I am the director of the bone marrow registry for our area.  I have staff that recruit new donors, staff that fundraise, and staff that assist donors through the process.  It's a great balance of field work for me and office work.
DH is a high school English teacher... he loves his work too :)  Plus it gives summers off plus nice Spring and Christmas breaks.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it?

Urban with a touch of suburban.  Our neighborhood is well establish walkable neighborhood that doesn't feel urban but we are smack in the middle of urban life.
I would prefer rural life.  I grew up on a farm and miss that lifestyle but it would be hard to leave Los Angeles and many of the things that I've grown to love.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part?

A house.  Best part-  we have nice front and back yards.  Worst part-   I can get my wish list going and focus on all the things I'd like changed about it and that's never uplifting.  Trying to focus on happiness w/what we have :)

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change?

I love being a mom.  The lifetsyle suits us well. We don't go out much anymore... we are now homebodies and I like it.  I miss going to baseball games and the Hollywood Bowl (i really miss the Bowl... but it starts too late for the girls).  I don't like that every time we do go out I need to pay for a sitter... that's an addition $60 a night if we do go out.

What would I change?? As much as I love my job, I'd love to stay home full time.  I do stay home two days a week... but I would rather always be home.  But my husband is a teacher and that's not realistic w/a teacher's salary.  I will say that being able to work and stay home, staying home is harder.  My life is smoother and has less frustrations when I go to the office... hats off to SAHMs!  (Not starting a debate... just my personal opinion and experience.)

     Go!

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change? I love our ability to travel, but I am ready to give some of that up for a baby!

Travel now Crene!!!  We were big travelers.... now the idea of dragging a baby and baby stuff is not as appealing. But more than that.... most of our free time is w/family now who want to love our girls :)

  • 1. What do you do for a living? DH? I am a stay-at-home mom, DH has a government job

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it? Suburban - I do like it, we are in a very convenient location, close to shops, restaurants, tons of family, schools and major highways.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in? Best part about it? Worst part? We live in a mobile home (trailer).  The best part is it is adorable, we painted it bright colors on the interior, everything is fun with a DIY vibe and it just screams "us".  Our park is awesome, it is extremely well kept because we have VERY strict park managers.  There are tons of kids and very friendly neighbors.  Worst part - I live in an area where tornados are incredibly rare and yet every time we have a storm I get so scared and obsessively watch the weather forecast.  Also, it's small and has practically no storage space (although because of this we have practically no clutter - bonus!)

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change? My favorite part is definately staying at home with my DS.  What I wouldn't mind changing is actually proximity to family - both of our families are all within 20 minutes so we probably are seeing one family member or another at least 3-4 times a week.  Everyone is so involved with everyone else's business, and I really wish we could have more independence and space to create our own family traditions and be oblivious to any drama!

    1. What do you do for a living?  DH?

Until a few weeks ago I was a teacher, now I am a SAHM :o) (I'm soooo excited!), DH is the principal of a K-8 Elementary School.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it?

Suburban and we LOVE it! Close enough to all the major metropolitan amenities, but able to see the stars at night.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part?

    3BR house.

Best Part: it is a one story house, our 1st house, we built it, so it's just the way we like it. DH designed DS's nursery - it has story book character murals all over it!

Worst part: under water on our house, so no way of moving any time soon and our house will be to small if we want to grow our family further.

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change?

Favorite thing: We are parents!!!!!!!! We love it and enjoy every second of it!

Like to change: Being allowed to take DS out in public. Just have to wait a few more weeks :o) (until after his 2 month shots, because he is a premie).

    1. What do you do for a living?  DH?

I am a middle school band director and my DH is a truck driver for a food service company.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it?

suburban.  I like it, but I would like to be a little bit farther out of town.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part?

Spilt level.  It's the perfect size for our family with the exception of closet space and the bathroom.  I'm pretty sure our tiny main bath could win an ugly bathroom contest.  It's powder blue with corroded brass fixtures. Unfortunately, I don't have the money to update it right now and my DH thinks its ridiculous to spend any money to make it look nice.  In his words...  "If it isn't broke, don't fix it. Unless we can't poop or shower, there is no reason to spend any money on it."

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change?

I love that we travel often.

I wish we had a church and were consistent about attending.

  • 1. What do you do for a living?  DH?

I am a SAHM.  I have a small part time job (one day a week) at a baby boutique that pretty much just pays for all the stuff I buy DD there- ha!  DH is a Financial Analyst/Accountant.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it?

I live on the edge (my house literally backs up to a mountain) of a large city, but we're in a more suburban part of the city.  I am SO over my city and state.  My mindset, values, political views, and apparently intelligence level have outgrown this state tenfold.  However, my husband and I both grew up here, and he refuses to leave his family/my family and our friends.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part?

Two story home.  It's modest, but big enough for us.  I love our house because we became a family in it.  It also was a model, so it has tons of little upgrades I never would have paid for (like TWO huge awesome bathtubs!).  The worst?  I'm really trying not to covet anything, as we have been so blessed.  But I would love an actual back yard for DD.

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change?

Honestly, everything.  I am SO happy with our life right now, I don't know that I would change anything about it!

  • 1. What do you do for a living?  DH? I'm an elementary school counselor/social worker. DH is in the finance business, working with mutual funds and such.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it? We live in the suburbs just outside of Boston. I like it because I've never been a big "city girl" but we are close enough to the city to go in when we want. I love the neighborhood that we're in now.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part? We own a single family colonial house. Best part about it is that it's brand new so moving in we didn't have to worry about the indoor repairs. Worst part is that the landscaping leaves a lot to be desired...we're getting there.

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change? I like our balance between work and personal life right now. We've got a great group of friends that are spread out throughout New England but we actually see them more often than friends that live closer. Of course one thing I'd like to change is to have a child in the picture as well.

What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part?  Split level house, we did a lot of work on it pre-adoption and finally feel like it is "ours", really love our updated bathrooms,  worst part, is probably rec room area that has become a combo family, workout, music, etc area, needs some work! I really wish we had a bigger house too! 4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change? I just went back to work after  a year home with DS, so we are getting into the groove of us both working. • 1. What do you do for a living? I am a general manager for a large life insurance agency. I am also working on a PhD in educational psychology.

    2. Do you live...? I am in a suburban area. It is a small town, yet large enough for a Target!

    3. What kind of home? I am in a single family home in a good neighborhood. The best part is that I bought in a neighborhood with no HOA and we have a large yard. The worst part is that the storage within the house is not ideal.

    4. Favorite part of my lifestyle? I love the fact that I only have to work when my boys are in school. I get off everyday in time to pick them up in the car line and then we have all afternoon together!

Mother of two wonderful boys! Blessed through adoption.

  • 1. What do you do for a living?  DH?  DH is a professor.  I am an academic advisor at a community college.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it? Technically, we live in a city, but it's a small city.  We're both from larger metropolitan areas in the Midwest, and we are now living in South Georgia.  To be honest, we don't like it very much.  The constant summer weather is nice, but we miss the places we are used to, our families and friends, and the amenities of the big city.  We are trying to view it as an extended vacation to warmth. LOL.

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part? We live in a 2 bedroom apartment.  We love that we have a balcony and two pools in the complex.  We dislike that at times there are too many college students and it can sometimes be a little noisy.

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change? We love having the freedom to travel and make plans as we wish.  Of course, we would happily trade all of that for the ability to parent, but, hey, you gotta take what you can get.

  • 1.I am a registered nurse in an high risk OB unit. Don't have a husband.

2.Live in urban area.  Love it, close to everything.

3.Live in single family home. Love privacy of it, Hate upkeep of it.

4.Favorite part of my lifestyle is being a mom to my son. One thing I'd like to change, is that I would like to share my life with someone and be married.

  • 1. What do you do for a living?  DH?I used to be an interpreter at an airport. I did that for 11 years until I got pregnant with DS. Now I'm a language tutor for children. My wife is a Professor of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology.

    2. Do you live in a rural, suburban, or urban area? Do you like it? Suburban. We live on Professor Row. It's a great area, and great for kids. It's a lot like where I grew up. My only complaint is the neighbors in the

    3. What kind of house or apartment do you live in?  Best part about it? Worst part? We have a 3-story (not including the basement) 5 br house. I love it. It's perfect for our kids (except for all the stairs, but it's nothing a baby gate or two won't fix). My only complaint is the neighbors in the house across the street. They're your run-of-the-mill religious bigots. So a lesbian atheist couple with a black baby living across the street? Yeah, they don't like us. We've clashed a few times over the years...

    4. What's your favorite part about your lifestyle right now? What is one thing you'd really like to change? It's hard to choose a "favorite part" of my life. I'm just trying to live an honest for myself, my wife, and my children. I was married once before, very young to a man I didn't have much in common with, and I tried too hard to make things work. Now I'm just trying to do what makes us happiest, and to try to give back to the world we live in.

And my kids are pretty damn cute.
