What have you got?
Me: apparently DD cried twice last night (around 11pm and again around midnight) and I didn't hear her!!! DH said he had to get up twice.. Now I'll probably never sleep again out of fear.
The only thing is... I NEVER sleept that deep. And I do remember hearing her, but I don't run in there as soon as she makes a little noise. Most of the time she is actually asleep while complaining/crying. I wonder if DH ran in there right away... I just really can't see overhearing her twice!!!
Either way I feel so guilty
Re: FFFC
No one needs a gun, and no one should have access to one. They should be illegal.
The shooting this morning happened a block from my old office. I'm currently trying to contact old co-workers to make sure everyone is okay.
Between this, and what happened in Aurora, I'm sick of people who think otherwise. Guns don't kill, people kill, blah, blah, blah. Enough. Just, enough. It's insanity.
Yes, I'm getting also really sick and tired of people always saying "it is my consitutional right to bare guns", I need to protect myself yaddayadda.... I do get the whole shotgun for hunting thing but I wish it would be in some sort of a storage not accessible at all times. People who always think they need the gun to protect themselves are the ones who will look for a reason to use the weapon and may be a bit too trigger happy. I know there are both sides to the story, but I have multiple friends who have guns and the way they talk about it, I honestly think they are the LAST people who should ever own a gun. That's why we have law inforcement.
What bugs me is that we have guns in our house!! FIL just came one day and dropped them off at our house. Two shotguns for hunting (my DH never goes hunting) but the reasoning was, it's been in the family for a long time and then he brought some weird WWII handgun. I was so upset!!!!!! I wanted him to take the guns back, instead (since DH couldn't say anything) they went and bought a gun safe. It doesn't make it better!!! I will still have DH get the guns out of my house!
zachary happens! | little fish
The fact of the matter is that people will get guns whether they are "legal" or not. Do you really think criminals care if they are "illegal"?
Well of course you'll always have that. Same with drugs, doesn't mean we should make it even easier accessible or legal.
Like I said, I get both sides of the story and there are different circumstances. Like PP said, if you need it for your livelyhood that is a different story.
BUT if people get guns because they think they need to take the law into their hands at any given time they see as necessary, then there is a problem. And unfortunately guns purchased legaly for their own protection end up killing the person who got the gun to prevent just that. I do think it would make a difference if less people purchased guns and if it was a bit harder to get it.
As mentioned before, people I know (and there are about 5 I can name right away) really should not have guns. Their attitude is RIDICULOUS!
Something similar happened to me yesterday! I scheduled my OB appt over a month ago too, and was supposed to be seen at 2.00. I get there and right before my appt the nurse comes out to tell me that my OB is in surgery, and won't be done for another hour or so and that I should probably reschedule b/c there was another woman ahead of me. Why not call ahead of time if you knew the surgery was scheduled, so I didn't have to make the trip??? I refused to leave and they squeezed me in with another doc. They have to be a bit more flexible, people can't just be available at any time. And come on, an appointment should mean something = they should plan on seeing that patient that day!!!
Ohhhh LOL Ops! hahahah Well that's a bit different but still frustrating. I'm glad they got you in sooner though. Sh!t happens but they need to be able to figure things out in a case like that. And as you can see, if you give them hell, something can be worked out
The thing is, if you look around at the rest of the world, this statement is totally false. looking at countries that have gun control, like Great Britain, Germany, and Japan (as studied here), the number of gun deaths they have in a year is about 4% of what we have in the U.S. In 2009, we had over 10,000 gun deaths; Japan had 7. As in, less than 10. I just do not know how people can ignore those stats from other countries and say that limiting or taking away access to guns will not stop gun deaths; it's clearly working in other countries so why can't it work here?
As for the constitutional right, i really don't give a crap - you also had a constitutional right to own slaves, and women did NOT have a constitutional right to vote, and we changed those things because they were no longer valid or accepted. We no longer live in a society where you need a gun to be able to feed your family or to protect your "homestead" in the middle of nowhere from "wild Indians or some crap like that. Yes, it's "tradition," yes, it's "cultural" for some people, but that doesn't mean it's ok or that it can't go away. There are many other things that were "traditional" here and in other countries but are no longer allowed because the negative impact outweighed the "tradition."
I've done this multiple times. I am usually a deep sleeper though, so it doesn't surprise me. My husband just gets up if I don't hear her, or he pokes me in the leg or hip until I wake up and go calm her down. Don't feel bad about it.
As far as gun control, seeing as I live in Canada and our government just scrapped the long gun registry because it was just wasting money, I do think that the US needs a bit more gun control but not scrapping guns all together. Those who use guns for legitimate reasons - hunting for instance - are really the only ones who are majorly affected by those types of laws.

I completely agree with you!
I just don't want to completely dismiss the potential need for weapons for people living on a ranch or something like that as I don't know anything about that lifestyle. That's why I think the regulations need to be different. Shotgun/rifle for hunting - ok. Handguns, automatic assult rifles etc. NOT OK.
I also don't think people who have been arrested for any kind of a physical altercation should be allowed to have a gun. And I know of two who have it! I just don't think there is a need for general public to have a gun.
And yes I also have the right to feel safe, and I don't when so many people around me who are completely untrained and are most likely to misjudge the situation and kill somebody , have a weapon.
I just always think of all the accidental deaths too b/c a child has found a gun in daddy's closet, or how the kids are being raised that guns are "cool" and they snatch the weaopn out of parent's house and kill another friend b/c they want the same girl. Or mistaken identities, just a couple of weeks ago a father shot and killed his own son b/c he though he was a burglair! It's just trouble waiting to happen.
So like you said I also agree that the negative impact outweight everythng else and I wish owing a gun wasn't this easy...
I'm totally for the legalization of most drugs.
I have another FFFC
I'm totally jealous of my friend who has a 16month old and is in awesome shape. Her and I are a similar build, and are both slender/athletic (well I used to be). Her H works at a fitness center and she works out every day! I, on the other hand am still about 10lbs over my PP weight and even though I'm not overweight actually, I'm jealous that I'm not as fit as she is anymore. At the same time, I can't find the time (I know excuses) to work out so I just choose to "dislike" her for that

My sister had a baby two weeks ago and is in better shape than me. I understand.
