New name on my bro's class list

Yerin. It's a girl, I think. How do you pronounce that one? I figure like Erin with a y in the beginning (like it looks). Have you seen this name before?

  • He said it like "urine" and I said, "Ummm, no. Don't think that's quite right."

  • Is she Korean? I know several Korean girls/women with names ending in -rin.

  • I would pronounce it Erin with a Y. So Yair - rin. I have not seen it...I don't really like it either.
  • Honestly, I would pronounce it Yer-in so basically urine.  It's possible that if it is an ethnic name that the parents were not aware of how similar the two sound.
  • Seems like Yair-in to me as well. Or maybe it's just pronounced Erin and spelled different - that's quite the fad as we all know...

  • I had a little girl in class named Yerin and she was Korean.  It rhymed with Karen.
