Ergo back carry help

DD loves to be worn but wants to see out. She is small for her age (20th percentile), but I feel like at 1, we should be able to figure out the back carry. Can she be in the back carry without her arms out the top? The straps dig into her armpits, and she is screaming and red in a few minutes. We've only tried at home twice, and it hasn't worked out. Thanks!

Her arms can go under the straps like they do in a front carry.

My DD is 15% at 6 months and we do the backcarry. Her arms go under as shown above. She loves it!

Thanks everyone! I guess I didn't think she could be worn that way. Lots of Ergos around town, but their arms are always above. I'll try it again tonight.

Sometimes when I put DD into a back carry, one of her arms is "out" as I call it, or over the top. I go stand in front of a mirror and check every time I put her in a back carry. If an arm is out, I hold onto her firmly and unbuckle the front, shimmy the strap off my shoulder and then pull it over her arm. Usually works!
