I've always pronounced it veer-uh but I've never met a Vera in real life so I've never had anyone to correct me. I have heard both though.

The Vera I know pronounces it Veer-uh.

I have known three Vera's and each one used Veer-Uh. Could be regional as well since her family from the north said it Vair-Uh. They also said Aloe Vera with the Vair-Uh sound, where locally most people say it Aloe Veer-Uh. I think either works and is nice.

This is my DD's name I had never heard it pronounced Vair-uh.... until her 1st doctors appointment. The nurse called out Vair-uh and I couldn't believe it! I never thought to pronounce it like that.

Exactly this. Although, I think I pronounce Aloe Vera both ways. At least I don't pronounce Aloe as A-loa anymore (like I did as a kid). lol

Vera Wang may pronounce it Veer-uh Wang, but there are MORE than enough people who call her Vair-uh for it to be confusing.

If it hadn't been for a character on Ice Age (a very minor character at that), I'd pronounce it Vair-uh. Although, since I've heard Veer-uh, I prefer it this way.
