Severe hip pain

So, I had some hip pain at 4 months and it only lasted a week and was tolerable. Well, for 3 days now, I have really bad pain int he back right side by my tail bone soooo, bad. I wake up every hour or two at night to roll over because I am in so much pain. Last night it decided to move to the left side outer thigh, and is still there this morning.

I have pillows between my legs, one under my belly, and doing everything I read to do for the pain, but I am so scared it will not let up and only continue. I am just barley at the end of my second trimester, and cant imajine 3 more months of this. Anyone try anything else to help them out. Funny thing is, if I am up walking, I am fine. Its only after sitting a while that is hurts. Help!

  • I know how you feel! I get awful pain in my tail bone and leg. All I do is take some pain killers :. Hope you feel better!

  • I danced for 20+ years and didn't deal with this in my first pregnancy, but am struggling with it this time.  Stretching and yoga seem to help some, along with proper tailor sitting (not just criss-cross apple sauce, but actually on your "sitting bones").  Doc says it's too much relaxin in my hips this time and my actual bones are sliding around.  I can't do squats when I hurt, but if I do them when I feel fine, it as helps to keep those muscles tight to support the loose ligaments.

  • I'm seeing a chiropractor. I saw one years ago, my hips are slightly crooked and he put them back in place, it helped with lower back pain. Now I'm going because of the pregnancy, there's some research showing that chiro shortens labor and reduces pain during labor. Not sure how true that is but it feels awesome so its worth it to me either way. Maybe you could try a chiropractor?

Like Tylenol? does it even work? I took it one time for a headache at 3 months, and it did nothing so I have not taken it for anything else.

My husband is totaly against them. His mom was almost paralized by one when he was younger, and so he flipps out if I even mention it. I am going to talk to my doctor with him present, so if she says its ok, maybe he will change his mind since I am the one in pain.

  • Yikes! Well the one I went to graduatedfrom Palmer College of Chiropractic. They seem a bit nutty, they think chiro cures all kinds of things but I loooove going and since 2007 my guy has opened 6 other offices in the DC area with all Palmer grads. Maybe they have a different philosophy? You can find a Palmer?:: chiro if you Google the college, there's a "find a chiro" link. I don't know what else would help hip pain :

  • I know this isn't a great solution but last week I was having bad hip pain while I was in bed and I tried sleeping almost sitting up for a few hours.  It maybe wasn't the best sleep ever but it did make the pain better.

Also, I have a Snoogle pillow which seems to help a lot.  I was traveling last week and didn't have it and I think that's why I got the pain. I haven't had any more pain since I've been back at home and w/ the Snoogle.

  • A suggestion that's worked for my hip pain:

I put a pillow between my knees AND between my ankles. For me, it makes all the difference in the world.

Also - I sometimes sleep on my back at an angle - even if just for a little bit. It totally gives my hips relief.

    Good luck!!

I have had the Snoogle for 4 months, and it has been a life saver up until now.

  • I feel your pain! Normally it has only hurt here n there but lately it's "steady" today both hips, tail bone and lower back are very tender. :-/ not loving it.  I'm not sure what to do either, pillows help and soft seats but haven't found anything else. I didnt move a lot last night in my sleep, maybe that's why I'm more tender feeling today. I figure everything has to get ready to get baby here sO I'm going to have to deal and pray it lessens. Oh and the sore lady area isn't a help with so much more going on around there!
