Swelling with Fenugreek?

My LC had put me on some fenugreek (the motherlove one) and I've noticed for the past couple of days that I've had awful swelling in my legs from the knee down, all the way to my toes.  I wasn't sure if it was from the herbs, or from my legs being pretty much atrophied because I just sit and nurse all day - I haven't exercised in a while!

I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this/had this before.  Thanks!

Re: Swelling with Fenugreek?

  • I haven't, but I'm interested in the responses you get.  I seem pretty puffy, but I just assumed it was from too many carbs lately.  Hmmm.

  • i didnt notice swelling but my lips were numb and tingly. i also felt very drained, like my blood sugar had dropped. i had to stop taking it.

on the other hand i have noticed more swelling my legs, my baby is 9wks. i was attributing it to not enough water intake.

  • Hi, just lurking but am a nurse so might be able to help. Fenugreek isn't known to cause lower leg edema, but double check with your LC just in case. Otherwise, since you mentioned you're sitting all day are you putting your feet up or just letting them rest on the floor? Keeping your legs dependent (feet on floor) for long periods slows blood return to the heart so it pools in the lower legs. Muscle atrophy doesn't cause leg swelling, that's the muscles shrinking so legs would look smaller not larger. Make sure you're drinking lots of fluids as well as propping your legs on pillows when sitting to help combat swelling. And get up often to walk around and get that circulation going (perhaps wear compression stockings too), you don't want to develop a DVT. HTH!
