Im on my last pregnancy, 3rd csection. We are DONE after our 3rd baby arrives. I keep getting asked by my doc at each appt if i want my tubes tied since im having a csection it would be very easy to do procedure. Ive done some research the only side effect that scares me is having extremely heavy periods with mood changes. I have told my doc i want the IUD birthcontrol put in instead which will give me less periods which im all for!. But the idea of not having to really ever worry about getting pregnant again with a tube tie seems more logical. Also i told DH if i dont get a tube tie he is getting a vasectomy, which he isnt too excited about... i dunno, anyone out there dealing with ang of these decisions?
Re: tube tie vs vasectomy?
We're having baby #3 as well and I'm not having a c/s (hopefully!) so DH will be having a vasectomy. We do plan to wait though. I don't think I'd be ready for anything permanent as soon as the baby was born. We're not 100% sure we're done (only about 99% sure
but I just want to wait at least 6 months before making a decision like that.
Oh, and I don't know any guy that IS excited about a vasectomy, but ya know what? They can deal. It shouldn't be our responsibility to not only carry and deliver the babies, but also be on hormonal birth control. They can do SOMETHING. Ahem.

The most children we plan to have is 3...
so IF I get pregnant again and IF I have a c-section again I will get my tubes tied rather than having him get a vasectomy. Mainly because I figure it's just one less "surgery/procedure" to do.
However, if I had a VBAC with my 3rd child, I would have DH get a vasectomy.

My IF blog
We are about to have baby #2 and we are done too! One boy and one girl is exactly what we wanted. My OB and I already have by tubal ligation scheduled for November before the new year since my deductible will be reached this year. I've already had an IUD between pregnancies because we wanted them 3 years apart. It worked ok as far as preventing pregnancy until I wanted to get pregnant again but it does come with some disadvantages. My husband and I were both able to feel it during sex. It was actual pretty uncomfortable depending on the position we were in. Thats why were just going ahead with the tubal. One important piece of info, depending on your insurance, our OB said a vasectomy is more expensive then a tubal. I know this doesn't make since but a lot of stuff about insurance companies doesn't. We use BCBS. So because of that, I will be getting the tubal. It's a 15 min procedure at the hospital with minimal recovery. Im actually doing it while I'm on maternity leave.
Hope that helps!
I was going to get a tubal and then I saw the list of potential side effects and changed my mind. There's no way I'm risking that. It's not like I can get my IUD out like I did when that started messing up or stop taking a pill.
DH said he'd get a Vasectomy but we'll see since he hasn't made any moves...We'll probably wait a few months before he gets it. I am thinking about getting a diaphragm or doing FAM if I get my period until that happens and we are out of the woods.
This has got to be false. I work in urology and assist in / follow up on vasectomies all the time. I've never heard of this. There is no scientific reasoning for it that I'm aware of at least...
What I do know is after age 30, male testosterone decreases slightly each year which can automatically contribute to weight gain but who knows...
While this is our first child, we have already talked about how, after our second child is born, what type of permanent birth control we would use. My husband, though he isn't thrilled, is going to get a vasectomy because the recovery is easier and the cost is much cheaper. Even if I were to need a c-section for the second child, I don't want to have to recover from a c-section and having my tubes tied while caring for a toddler and a newborn.
Whatever works best for the both of you, though, is what you should do. I would ask a nurse what kind of extra pain and recovery time you might need if you do decide to get the tubal ligation after the c-section. Doctors don't always consider recovery when they tell you about things.

Exactly. Men bounce back very quickly from vasectomies. DH will be getting the snip. We might wait a few months, but we're pretty sure we're done at 2 kids.
Just as an FYI for everyone wo may not know this.....just like we talk about on here about 2x/week that breast pumps will be covered (at least the rental cost) by most insurance plans (not getting in to specifics about which still do not have to cover) once your plan renews after 8-1-12 due to the women's preventive care section of the Health Care Reform law....female sterilization (but NOT male) must be covered at 100% (meaning no deductible, coinsurance, etc. can apply) by these same plans under this same section of the law.
Just something to think about if you aren't doing it until next year and you would otherwise have to reach a new deductible or if you are trying to decide who will get it done. If your plan sucks like mine - free after 1/1/13 is better than paying probably our entire 5k deductible for DH to get snipped!
I never considered either, but DH volunteered to get it done because neither of us like condoms, I do NOT do well on hormons and he does not like idea of a hook (IUD) close to his equipment (I tried to explain that it is not, but I failed)
I think he is debating it now that we are having second boy because we are not 100% sure we wont try again.
