Re: Brag Day Wednesday People!!!
I'm thinking about asking to up his IEP meeting to in a month it was signed Nov. 28 because as long as the skills translate to the classroom he has met almost all of the goals.
DS 09/2008
The baby was crying up a storm due to having some tummy issues (gas) but I was in another room doing something and the baby was in his room, in his crib. I see Chris walking out of the baby's room and I'm thinking 'oh dear'. He's been in the habit, of late, of taking any toy the baby's playing with.
When I walked in, I saw that Chris had placed one of his little toy cars in the crib next to the baby. It's one he particularly likes too.
Now I can't say for certain but I think he may have been trying to cheer up his little brother!
I just intro'd yesterday, so I hope it's okay that I join in.
DS has feeding issues. He does not eat much solid food, so most of his nutrition comes from Pediasure. We offer him four six ounce bottles a day and whatever he doesn't take by mouth he has to have through his NG tube. He has not taken a full six ounce bottle since before he got sick, so more than three months.
DH (he's a SAHD) just texted me a picture of an empty bottle. DS took the whole thing by mouth! We're so looking forward to him being able to take enough to not have to do tube feedings and this is a giant step in the right direction!
Everyone else's brags made me smile - so much to be excited about!
DD1 started her second year of preschool! She looked a little upset on the first day when I left, but pulled it together and everything has gone swimmingly so far.
We're going on bike rides every evening after dinner -- it helps both of them get more running around in before bed -- and she's getting more and more confident on her balance bike. Yesterday she tried to convince me that she didn't need to wear a helmet because she doesn't fall down.
I started officially WAH this week, with a sitter coming for a few hours each morning. Sophie and Elsa both seem to love having somebody who is there just to play with them and not always trying to get something else done too; plus I still have the afternoons with them. I think it's going to be a good change for all of us.

ST just left the house and said she is amazed at the progress A has made.
Also three little girls in our neighborhood came over to play with A. She made good eye contact with them and even smiled and laughed.
It was right at the end of therapy and I knew Nate would be asking to play a game on the ipad. We have been verbally telling him for the last two days that the ipad was broken.....alot.
I could see the wheels turning, he looked at me and signed "broken". It was perfectly signed with the hand twists and everything. (He has seen the broken sign maybe twice) I tried really hard not to laugh and said "You're right, Nate. The ipad is broken"
Of course, what I should have done was act confused and see if I could have gotten a longer signed phrase out of him. I was just so tickled and happy about his 'commentary' I didn't even think about it. Next time though.....
I think he was! So sweet!
Awesome!
Carson had his brain MRI today and did great. He was actually really funny coming off the meds. He acted like a happy drunk guy, even giving me a big sloppy kiss on the lips complete with smooching sound effects. It did break my heart seeing him go to sleep though. They had him in the exact same kind of crib he had in the NICU and they sort of swaddled him like a baby. Gave me a wave of emotion for sure.
He is also starting to gain a few new words here and there. I decided to wait on speech therapy for a couple of months to see how he does on his own. (His evaluator agreed with me on waiting a bit, although he does have a delay). His brother (who talks a lot for his little brother) just started pre-school so I think being on his own at daycare may encourage him to speak more. Fingers crossed!
Wahoooo! Yay for rolling!
Lots of great brags!
I have an honest to goodness brag this time. DS has been competing in para in his sport for years, and he not only made it to the championship competition, he did well and won medals. I can't beginn to describe what that did for his confidence, he's been so down about his lack of diagnosis.
Love! Yay!!
Good for him!
There are awesome brags here this week! I look forward to this post a lot.
And I have to add a late-breaking brag: today when I dropped DD1 off, another little girl was crying b/c her mom left. DD1 went over and started trying to talk to her, clearly trying to understand why/help. My heart melted a little.
