BFers, do you feel like you smell, sometimes?

I know at the beginning I felt very stinky in general.  For the first month I couldn't shower often enough.  Now it's just certain days I feel just yucky, and I'm convinced it's related to the BFing because between my boobs is sweaty all the time, and underneath too - the nursing bras are hot, too much material, breast pads all the time - too much extra stuff there!   And the sour milk smell, urgh.

I will go for a year like I did with DS1, I do love BFing, but the boobs being utility/service objects part, I'm over it.

I can't wait to wear cute skimpy bras without wide straps and clips, and just a shirt without a million layers, nursing tank, etc.

  • I feel ya.  And yes, I feel like my tata's have been so abused lately.  I'm down to two functional bra's right now, and I've been wearing the same bra for 4 days now....which is nasty because I leak milk all over myself when I BF or pump.  The other day I itched between my boobs.....as I scratched off dried milk inbetween.  I need to shower every day or bad things start to grow in odd places.

  • Yes. I feel stinky all over. I changed deodorant and soap and both helped me tremendously. I hate feeling yucky all the time though.

  • Yep, all of this. I don't love anything about bfing. Actually, I don't bf because my LO never really latched well and I basically gave the heck up but pump. Me and my asthmatic pump have a wonderful bfing bond to where I only want to throw it out the window every other day now. By 1/2 way through the day I smell like a Chobani manufacturing plant no matter how often I wipe the milk bags down. I also had to change deodorant to Degree 48 hour because Secret and Dove just were not cutting it. I am done with it by the time she is one I think plus I want to start to ttc when she is about one yrs old and we may need fertility treatment again which means we have to be weaned for 6 months.

  • I wore a normal bra for a bit the other day just to see what they would look like again, and it was so much better, too bad I had to take it off since I couldn't nurse very easily.

  • I EP, but I know what you mean.  Initially I thought it was just because of the sweat, like you mentioned, but the other day I noticed the smell WHILE I was in the shower!  Apparently my boobs just smell now.  Awesome.  And while skimpy bras and skinny little straps are never a possibility for me, I cannot WAIT until I don't have to wear breast pads and layers to hide the pads!

  • I am pretty sure I smell right now.  I am currently shower 2 times a day.  I feel like I just need to rinse off at night before I get into bed to get another milk residue off of me.  It is bad because DS is a messy eater.

  • The one good thing about pumping is I never bothered to buy the nursing bras. I wear regular cotton bras that are really comfy, they have vneck shapes so if I wanted to nurse I could fairly easilly but never really got to. Willow nursed between weeks 6-8 then just screamed at my bewbs. It was fun!

  • There was seriously a time where I would gag on the sour milk smell everytime I unsnapped the flaps of my nursing bra.  It didn't matter if it had been hours or days since I'd showered, it was awful.  It seems to have gotten better just recently, though.

I've started to tire of the whole EP-ing thing lately.  I don't know if I'll make it to a year.  My short term goal is 6 months, so we'll see how I feel then.

  • Because of this (and heavy letdown issues), I always use a burp cloth tucked under my boob. It catches any leaks and I stay stink free. :)

  • I shower in the morning and after my evening workouts... So usually twice a day.

    I still smell.

It does. I just don't remember when. Eventually we reached a point where we were nursing sans special bras, pads, or smell.

I really hope this is true! The reason I dislike breastfeeding is because of all the crap that happens when you're not actually breastfeeding.
