Induction at 0cm and only 50% effaced?

Has anyone had a similar situation?

My progress hasn't changed in 3 weeks, and I know my doc is going to want to start the induction conversation this week (my appointment is late in the week). I'm terrified that its not enough progress for a successful induction that will give me the vaginal birth I want.

  • I have been at 0 cm for several weeks. Another appointment scheduled for Wednesday and my induction is already scheduled for one week from today. Last week my cervix was sitting behind LOs head so there's nothing pushing on it to dialate it.... One more week... One more week!

  • This was my best friend with her last child, only she was 0% effaced. She gave birth vaginally 6 hours after starting the pitocin. Don't freak yourself out too much, it's absolutely possible.

  • I just went through this: induction at 1cm, 20 effaced and baby at 41w 2d.

I did have a csection in the end, but we had to go that route after 36 hours in the hospital because baby was unexpectedly large and facing up. If she had been facing my back, doctors say I would've been able to push her out. So I think that's luck of the draw on baby positioning: induction is not what caused her to flip over; it's just what she wanted to do.

I think if you've got fears about induction, hold out as long as you can to give your body chance to get ready. But vaginal birth is 100 possible even with no progress at the beginning.

  • I was induced at 40 weeks exactly.  I was 0cm dilated and not effaced at all.  Dr. warned me it could wind up in a c-section.  I went in the night before for cervadil.  I woke up 0cm dilated and 50% effaced.  From the time I was started on pitocin to the time I delivered it was 10 hours. I was able to deliver vaginally...however I have several friends who were due within 2 weeks of me who were induced.  I was the only one who delivered vaginally, all the rest ended in emergency c-sections for various reasons.

  • I am in the same boat. I am 1cm (as of last Wednesday) and 0% effaced, but with a very soft/pliable cervix (so my doc says). My OB is going to be out of town for a few days on/around my due date (8/26) and has offered to induce me on Friday (8/24). My husband and I decided to wait and see what my progress looks like at my next appointment (this Wednesday). If I have made no progress, we are going to wait for my body to go naturally. If there is any medical reason to induce (high bp, etc) then we'll induce. However, I'd really like to give my body some credit that it will do the right thing when it's ready. (P.S. I lost my mucus plug this weekend and have had some contractions, but no BS.) I'm not afraid of a c-section (easy to say when I'm safely on my couch) but I'd like to give nature a fighting chance first.
