I was planning on using the Arm's Reach for my upcoming arrival, but since our bed is a mattress on a platform (no box spring or foundation), I don't think it's possible.
What other alternatives do you recommend?
We used a Pak 'n Play with our first, but that thing is HUGE and I was hoping for something more compact that I could fit between the bed and the wall that would reduce getting up in the night for nursing.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Re: Alternatives to Arm's Reach Co-sleeper?
So your bed is lower than the ARC, correct?
You could remove the bed platform altogether and put your mattress on the floor. You could then just bed share.
You could add a bed rail and bed share.
The Arm's Reach Euro can be used on beds as low as 16" from top of mattress to floor.

Yes, our bed is probably lower than an ARC, but from my understanding, we probably can't use one because the mattress and the platform are not "flush" (like a mattress and boxspring would be), an ARC would not safely fit against the side.
Yes, our bed is probably lower than an ARC (but height-wise, I think we could use a mini, or a universal) but from my understanding, we probably can't use one at all because the mattress and the platform are not "flush" (like a mattress and boxspring would be), an ARC would not safely fit against the side.
Ah, gotcha. Yeah, a ARC won't work then, nor will sidecarring a crib.
I'd either do a floor bed or buy a rail.

But then you have to stay awake while bf-ing and place the baby back in.
Which I did not do for many, many months.

Isn't that also true with the ARC? We used the Arms Reach and if I wanted her to sleep there, I'd have to wake up again to put her back. OP said she liked the idea of ARC - the Close & Secure Baby doesn't seem any less convenient than that.
Thanks for the suggestion!
I don't mind being awake while BF-ing, and actually I never did master the art of nursing while on my side, anyway. Football hold or across the lap were my "go-to" positions.
It's the getting in and out of bed a million times a night that I dread!
If you, your husband, a friend, or family member is at all handy with tools, you could build your own:

I used the Summer infant rest assured sleeper. It was AWESOME, especially for the first few weeks when I was too scared to actually sleep in bed with DS. And it was also great to have him in that on my bed for naps and I could leave.
I felt like the Summer Infant one was more sturdy then the first years one personally. And not sure if that one folds up, but the Summer Infant one did and was a breeze to take with me to my moms. And it was also great for the transition to the crib!
