If your LO can hold their own bottle...

Do you ever just give it to them during the day instead of holding it for them? Not if they are going to sleep or anything just during their awake time. Or do you still hold it all times? Sometimes DS doesn't want me to hold it and is perfectly content if i lay him on the floor and give him his bottle to hold himself. It sure dies give me a nice break!: I was just curious what you other ladies do.

Re: If your LO can hold their own bottle...

  • DD is capable but does not hold her bottle.  She usually puts both hands behind her head like she is chillaxing while drinking her bottle.

  • We use glass bottles which are too heavy and unsafe for her to hold.

She has recently become a straw cup champ and I do let her do this on her own with me close by.

She is held a lot and nurses as desired so I feel ok giving up holding her for cup time.

  • My daughter grabs the bottle out of my hand so I let her hold it. I hold her while she drinks out of a bottle but she holds the bottle herself.

  • honestly i can't tell you the last time i held a bottle for DS. it's been probably 2 months. as soon as he was capable, we had him do it.

  • DS doesn't want me to give him his bottles during the day. He wants to lay on the ground and hold the bottle. His first & last bottle of the day he still wants me to at least hold him while he drinks it, but during the day he squirms until I put him down.
  • she likes to hold it herself in the boppy. i give her the bedtime bottle.
  • LO has held his bottle for about 3 months now or so, and I let him do it. We have plenty of snuggle time, but he's perfectly content holding his own bottle. I will still hold him when he's taking it and he's sleepy, but he holds the bottle and most often lies in the floor and watches his brother while eating.

  • Charlotte won't let anyone hold her to drink her bottle. She apparently thinks she's some big kid or something. She just plops on the floor, drinks her bottle, and tosses it to the side when she's finished.

  • She sits in her rocker seat and drinks her bottle during the day. At night she holds it herself while I hold her in the glider. The other day she didn't finish one of her bottles and it was still on the floor so she decided that when I laid her down to change her that was a good time to finish, so she reached over, grabbed it and polished it off while I changed her diaper. Hey, whatever works.

  • Maggie gets about 4 bottles a day and I would say that she maybe does 1 by herself (without me holding her) maybe every other day- honestly unless I am needing to be doing something else like tending to DS or getting the diaper bag ready I always hold her. Often when I hold her she will hold it herself but she is such a mover and a shaker that many times the only time I can get her to sit still and cuddle with me is during her bottles lol

Also- while she can hold the bottle on her own she definitely cant hold it and drink from it sitting up. She can get some milk but she definitely isn't great at tipping it up enough, if she is reclined back in the slightest she can do it but even in her convertible car seat (which is slightly reclined) she can't do it. She could in her pumpkin seat since there is more recline but for the most part that is also why I don't have her feed herself since when I do I have to like lay her on the ground and prop a pillow behind her since I don't want her laying flat and drinking.

I wouldn't worry! DS just started doing this a couple weeks ago. I didn't do anything to teach him either he just started doing it himself. At first he couldn't hold it real well but whenever he went to grab the bottle himself i would let go and let him practice. Now he's a pro!

  • DD has been holding her bottle for a few months now. I let her hold it, if I am washing dishes I lay her on her boppy on her playmat where I can see her. At bedtime I sometimes hold her and hold the bottle because I love our cuddle time.
