Re: Brag Day! Brag Day!
I have a really "fresh" one!
Our vision therapist gave us a card with six black/white images lined up in a grid that they use to test visual acuity in toddlers or non-verbal children. We also have those same six images printed on cards that are laminated. I have been working on a matching game with Nate and having him point to the image of the card that I hold up.
Today, I did the game with him in the highchair and me on the other side of the dining room (about 10' away). He was able to correctly match all of the images by pointing on his card! I am going to try it again tonight with Daddy across the living room. Next time we go to the ophthalmologist we will be ready!
That's awesome! What a good idea for a game too.
My brag: Ian walked on a treadmill at PT today! He got some shoe inserts yesterday, and they are already helping. He has low muscle tone in his legs and feet. In two weeks we will start going to therapy twice a week to see if we can get him to do some independent standing. He looks so grown up in his little tennis shoes.
That is fantastic about Nate. My brag is summed up by this photo:
It was parent/teacher conference at DS's preschool. He liked the classroom so much he did not want to leave.
I am just excited he starts Monday.
LOL! Way to go!
I have not been on here in forever....but here is my brag:
DS (ASD dx) is starting to say some words! and using them correctly to label or request things! He now says "Ahh" for car, "Chee" for Cheerios and "ki ki" for kitty, and my favorite of all, just Monday he started saying his name. I am so proud of my little boy
Before he would say words but only to fill in phrases, never to communicate, and then they would go away...so this is huge!
DD1 built an amusement park in our living room the past few days. It had a carousel (her favorite), bumper cars (couch cushions!), ferris wheel, water ride and "lowercase boat", which is her version of the flying boat from Wonder Pets.
It was so awesome to see her take something out of her memories/head, built physical representations, and do imaginative play! She and DD2 (and me) had a lot of fun riding the "rides".
She is getting really interested in words, and can recognize a few, like stop and zoo.

Chris plays telephone now - both with a real phone (my mom's cell) or with anything that might look like one. A couple of nights ago, he brings me the tv remote and holds it up to my head. I'm confused and wait for him to give me some clue and he pats it on my ear and says "heyyyo! heyyyo!" (he says his Ls like Ys -it's ridiculously cute)
So of course I talked to the other person on the 'phone', then he took it, said "heyyo", said something (no idea what he was saying but it sounded like it meant something to him), then he said "byeeee" and put the remote down.
It might be a stretch but it's the closest thing to pretending he's ever done.
My son is sensory seeking, has slow verbal processing and very poor attention skills. He learned to pedal a bike about 3 weeks ago but spends a lot of time watching his feet rather than where he is going.
Last week, we went to Mackinac Island, where the only transportation is horses or bikes. I wanted to put DS in a bike trailer but DH insisted we take DS's bike and let him ride, even if it only lasted 10 minutes. I pictured DS swerving in and out of traffic, leaving a trail of toppled over bikes in his wake.
I am proud to say we rode for close to 2 hours. Not one accident, DS obeyed the rules of the road and was aware and courteous to pedestrians and other riders. I was so proud of him.
