Top of the stairs gate

We are moving back in with my parents and I am in need of a gate for the top of the stairs. My father had a stroke a few years back and has trouble moving the arm and leg on one side of his body. I was looking for a gate that swings open but does not have the bar across the bottom. Obviously I want the gate to be strong just in case DS falls into it. Any ladies out there have a recommendation for a good gate?

We have this gate at the bottom of our stairs and love it. We still don't have one at the top of our stairs because we can't figure out a good gate that won't block the hallway upstairs...but this might work for your situation.

Another poster recommended this retract-a-gate and we're going to get it for the top of our stairs as well. We also wanted something that wouldn't swing around or require 2 hands when carrying LO up/down.

None of the gates posted in this thread require a 2 hand operation. They are all one hand open gates.
